Caesalpinia pulcherrima

ses-al-PIN-ee-uh -- named for Andreas Caesalpini, Italian botanist
pul-KAIR-ih-muh -- beautiful

commonly known as: Barbados flower-fence, dwarf poinciana, paradise flower, peacock flower , pride of Barbados, red bird of paradise • Assamese:

Native to: West Indies and tropical America; widely planted all over tropics

More or less prickly shrub up to 3 m tall; leaves bipinnate, leaflets up to 2 cm long; flowers with red petals having yellow margins, becoming deep red; stamens bright red, up to 6 cm long; pod flat, up to 10 cm long.

In Benagali it is known as Krishnachurha, as it looks like the Crown
of Lord Krishna. More Often Delonix regia is also erroneously called
Krishnachurha, which is actually Gulmohr.
There are two colours of the flower: pink and yellow, known respectively as Krishnachuda and Radhachuda.. Yours looks like Krishna chuda inspite of yellow tinges here and there.
Caesalpinia is a shrub to small tree, but Radhachura (Peltophorum ferrugineum ) is a tall plant with bright yellow flowers, resembling some what Delonix regia and Colvillea racemosa. Radhachura is also known as Copper pod, for the persistent pods which when  dry take copper colour> It is no doubt Caesalpinia. the flowers are generally with yellow tinges here and there.
In Mumbai, the common name of this flower is Shankasur. It is urban flower in blooms thorough out the year.
I am a little confused. Copper pod or Peltophorum is an entiirely different tree, whereas both Krishnachuda and Radhachuda are bushes, with difference in flower colour only. This is based on cursory observation by me in the gardens, and when caesalpinia grows wild, as in several places. Next time when I see caesalpinia in a garden or growing naturally, I will observe more closely an will let you know. But I am not conviced that Radhachuda is peltophorum.
I just checked Bose and Choudhury's book. Caesalpinia pulcherrima has petals variously coloured at the centre, crimson, red or golden red. C. pulcherrima flava is a variety with bright yellow flowers, and C. pulcherrima Rosea is a variety with rosy red flowers. It has 3 photographs, with red-gold, yellow and rose red flowers.
As per 'Beautiful Trees & shrubs of Kolkata' by Chakravorty & Jain, Peltophorum pterocarpum (syn. P. ferrugineum) is since being called as Radhachura, which actually refers to the var. flava (Yellow-flowered) of Caesalpinia pulcherrima
In Bengal Peltophorum pterocarpum, Copper Pod is referred to as Radhachura, whether in error or not I cannot say.  Same for Delonix regia referred to as Krishnachura as mentioned by ...

My friend told me it as pensurena. But I could not find this name on web, he said it is called mini gulmar too in India.
Could someone advice me for ID?
Place: Dharuhera
Flower diameter:3cm
Height:2m
I think it's Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Poinciana, Peacock Flower or Red Bird of Paradise).
It seems to be Caesalpinia pulcherima, in Bengali also known as Krishnachura, as it looks like the Crown of Lord Krishna.
You can very easily distinguish between Krishnachuda and Radhachuda here.

Taken at delhi on 26.6.8.Its a shrub as yet but I guess has the potential to grow into a tree.
Leaf description: Double feathered with 7-8 sets of leaflets (no terminal set), 9 pairs of leaflets in each set.
Each leaflet smooth on both sides, rounded apex with a short terminal spine
Spines on stem: solitary, small (near 3 mm), curved
Would appreciate the id
I think it's Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Dwarf Poinciana/ Pride of Barbadoes).
Here are some extracts from Wikipedia link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesalpinia_pulcherrima
In the genus Caesalpinia the most popularly planted species is Caesalpinia pulcherrima. Common names for this species include Poinciana, Peacock Flower, Red Bird of Paradise, Mexican Bird of Paradise, Dwarf Poinciana, Pride of Barbados, and flamboyan-de-jardin. It is a shrub growing to 3 m tall, native to tropical America. The leaves are bipinnate, 20-40 cm long, bearing 3-10 pairs of pinnae, each with 6-10 pairs of leaflets 15-25 mm long and 10-15 mm broad. The flowers are borne in racemes up to 20 cm long, each flower with five yellow, orange or red petals. The fruit is a pod 6-12 cm long.
It is a striking ornamental plant, widely grown in tropical gardens. It is also the national flower of the Caribbean island of Barbados, and is depicted on the Queen's personal Barbadian flag.
In India it is found in the tropical rain forests. With a beautiful inflorescence in yellow, red and orange, it is called "Ratnagundhi" colloquially.
Thanks for the id, … One of the pictures does show curved spines on stem, so the id seems conclusive

Today seems to be day for Caesalpinia.
Here is Caesalpinia pulcherrima (L.) Sw. from Vikas Puri New Delhi.

is there any varietal names for Yellow and pink form  of Caesalpinia pulcherrima?

... an exotic plant from West Indies and tropical America, cultivated pan-tropically, commonly known as Barbados flower-fence, dwarf poinciana, paradise flower, pride of Barbados, red bird of paradise.
As Tabish pointed out - it is popularly known as peacock flower in India, and it is known in almost all regions of India :-- Assamese: krishnachura • Bengali: krishnachura • Hindi:
I will not be surprised if this plant was introduced to India ages ago (exagerrating) !!
I was earlier mistakenly thought that the yellow variety was C. lutea ... until one of my flickr contact made me aware that there is no such species.
Thus C. pulcherrima var flava OR C. pulcherrima forma flava is rather the correct name for yellow variety.
i was just searching hte web and found out the following names
Flowers orange;---Caesalpinia pulcherrima Mexican Flame
Flowers pink:---Caesalpinia pulcherrima 'Compton',
Flower yellow----Caesalpinia pulcherrima var. flava
Flower pale yellow-----Caesalpinia pulcherrima var. Lemon Lace

Thank you very much, ... that resolves some of my pending IDs at my flickr photostream.

Hooghly Today : Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Linnaeus) Swartz: It is interesting that while "Hortus Suburbanus Calcuttensis" mentions Poinciana pulcherrima Linnaeus, "Bengal Plants" doesn't feature it (or maybe there is, hidden in some unknown name)!
And it is far more interesting that today we call Delonix regia (Bojer) Raf. as KRISHNACHURA (কৃষ্ণচূড়া) in Bengali, but Delonix regia has no Bengali name either in "Bengal Plants" or in "Hortus Suburbanus Calcattensis", and at the same time this plant, Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Linnaeus) Swartz (current accepted name of Poinciana pulcherrima Linnaeus), has been mentioned as KRISHNACHURA (কৃষ্ণচূড়া) in Bengali !

Though I may not have thanked individually, my sincere thanks to every one for the collective efforts and expertise in solving my queries over the years.
E-flora has developed as a great forum to discuss indian flora in which a lay person like me can also participate.
Today I am posting some old pics which I inadvertently missed. Kindly identify them.
