Hooghly Today : Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Linnaeus) Swartz: It is interesting that while "Hortus Suburbanus Calcuttensis" mentions Poinciana pulcherrima Linnaeus, "Bengal Plants" doesn't feature it (or maybe there is, hidden in some unknown name)!
And it is far more interesting that today we call Delonix regia (Bojer) Raf. as KRISHNACHURA (কৃষ্ণচূড়া) in Bengali, but Delonix regia has no Bengali name either in "Bengal Plants" or in "Hortus Suburbanus Calcattensis", and at the same time this plant, Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Linnaeus) Swartz (current accepted name of Poinciana pulcherrima Linnaeus), has been mentioned as KRISHNACHURA (কৃষ্ণচূড়া) in Bengali !

Though I may not have thanked individually, my sincere thanks to every one for the collective efforts and expertise in solving my queries over the years.
E-flora has developed as a great forum to discuss indian flora in which a lay person like me can also participate.
Today I am posting some old pics which I inadvertently missed. Kindly identify them.

In Hindustani, these are known as Krishna Chura n Radha Chura.
Pl. go through efi site pages at Caesalpinia pulcherrima & Caesalpinia pulcherrima f. flava
At the most, you can talk of them as different forms.
i did not realize that ... this is peacock flower is also known as krishnachura and radha chura. i thought krishnachura is delonix regia... in its red/scarlet// or yellow flower varieties and radhachura is one of the peltophorums … esp copper pod variety.
well, live and learn i guess. or there is a mix up in colloquial names used by mali and vendors.
Third color variant ?? Please show.
I have heard about a Green variant, not seen yet.

I don't have pictures. seen in botanical garden in Miami in the 80s. white and yellow varieties, and red... our krishnacuraie Delonix regia was very common in southern florida nurseries then.  fallen out of favor it seems because hurricanes uproot them...
just like they do it here in southern 24 paraganas in west Bengal....
