I have been gifted few saplings of 'Yellow' and 'white' Palash but I doubt if they will produce unusual flowers. As I understand you can not reproduce it, you can only protect and enjoy such rare mutations.The dry orange flowers as they fall down turn yellow, and the yellow flowers as they fall appear white. I have trekked several times in remote jungles to see 'white' palash only to find yellow on tree and white on ground. Here in the US, we have had good success growing yellow-flowered Delonix regia from isolated yellow-flowered trees. I suspect similar results can be achieved with Butea. - I am not Botanist or specialist on this topic but it is interesting and need justification. If my field observations are concerned than we came across such individual plants in southern parts of Rajasthan. And also a question arise that if the coloration changes due to rise in temperature then there should occur major changes in all the saffron flowers of Butea in the hot parts of Rajasthan where lot of habitats are facing micro-climatic changes especially when it matters with temperature rise......!!!!!!!!!!

The bottom line in the news-piece was just the documentation of an observation ( with images) and a hypothesis ( around currently yellowing leaves of palash and association with climate change ). - The variations in color of Butea flowers depend on many factors. By seeing Butea flowers from distance one can say with confidence about the water level or about last years rainfall. In Chhattisgarh near Dudhawa Dam region you can find Butea with nearly yellowish flowers. Because of high water level due to presence of big dam, Butea is showing different color. In the same area Shorea trees are dying prematurely due to same reason. Just to add. I have documented seventeen different colors of Butea flowers and surprisingly every type of Butea color is of special significance in Traditional Healing. They differ in medicinal properties-the Healers claim.
Hoping young researchers will come forward to conduct research on this unique aspect. During last visit to forest I identified Butea population as 15 th type but the Healers traveling with me said it is 12 th type. May be I have to check my eyes. ;) Diabetes Herbs. 12D. The second last photo shows the single seeded pod.... monosperma Golden flame of forest what is its binomial... certainly not monosperma.. the beans look as if they each have 5 -6 seeds... do they? Agreed ... there should have been 5-6 seeds, because the ovary has 5-6 ovules. But invariably all ovule abort except one at the tip of pod that matures as seed. The basal (flat, seedless) part of pod acts as wing to carry the falling pod away from mother tree. I used to wonder about the pods of the tree with golden flowers, as it was different from the non golden tree. is it a different species? I think that ... is Correct as the mentioned pictures are most probably of Erythrina sp. and not of Butea. updates on bombax ceiba and butea monosperma: I was on 2 days trip to Murbad-Shahpur area (edge of western ghats) and observed that the only single tree of Butea monosperma was flowering and also bombax ceiba was flowering throughout the trip. Is it the right schedule or this flowering was little early? It is little early in general. Nevertheless, the microclimate of the area plays a major role. I agree it is a bit early but I have been observing Butea flowering in latter half of Dec last few years. I wonder, where is the change heading to? we had rains till mid of October and now this early flowering of deciduous trees.

PLANTS IN THE SONGS OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE : PALASH : 1 post by 1 author. Attachments (1). For last one year or so I was working on the plants mentioned by Tagore in his songs. There are some 60 plants mentioned by him in his songs. In my project I take an image of the plant and print a song (in which this plant is mentioned) on this image. If there are 60 songs, where BAKUL is mentioned, these are printed separately on 60 images of BAKUL.To me it is quite interesting.I used to send those to my friends who understands BANGLA language. Some of my friends liked it. Recently I requested for images of PARUL and SYANDAN (as I did not have images of these plants with me and the plants are not available near my place.)through internet. ... sent me images of PARUL. She suggested that English translation of these songs with the images of the plants will benefit others who can't read BANGLA. On my request my friend Gen S K Sen has translated a song where PALASH and CHAMPA are mentioned. I am attaching an image of PALASH with English translation of the song. I intend to print the same song on an image of CHAMPA.

Butea monosperma on Basant Panchami : 4 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (3) Sharing an image of a brilliant Butea monosperma set against the stark early-morning sky. The flower, especially the outer surface, is very soft and downy. Photographed today (24.1.15) morning in Chinchoti. very nice but googling map... shows this north of Bombay Chinchoti is an offshoot of the Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and is popular for its waterfalls in the monsoon. This photo is from the open scrubland that dominates the lower reaches of the trail. The upward ascent leads into a mixed-deciduous habitat. From what I've seen, the deciduous Butea monosperma does remarkably well in such an open, dry ecosystem. The tree in this photo has retained a fair amount of foliage that will eventually disappear at the peak of the flowering period (in March).

Taub. along Ghodbunder Road on December 16, 2007 at Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary on February 7, 2009 at Kamshet on May 2, 2008 very nice. i have always wondered who/what eats up the seeds as it did in these pictures. does not look like the pod opened up and released the seeds. ..., wonderful post showing many details!! The branching in one of the picture is unusual to me.. it seems this tree sprouts branches if hurt or if it gets deep enough a scratch!! there used be on old tree in Victoria memorial ground that had gnarled branches about 3 feet from the ground ..that seemed out of place, since the usual// normal bifurcation etc were at least 10 feet above the ground level... if i go there this week i'll take some pictures for you. MAY BE OTHER MEMBERS can find such unusual starts of branches too and tell us. Thank you very much ... The unusual branching, I believe just as Usha di does, is mostly due to cutting of tree by the locals. Nice photographs !!!
