Shrubs or trees up to 5 m high, common in coastal and inland evergreen forest edges or scrub on rocky or clayey soil up to 100 m altitude.  Endemic to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Var. peltatus in India (A & N Islands), Thailand, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia to N. Australia.

Botanical name: Mallotus peltatus (Geiseler) Müll.Arg. Basionym: Aleurites peltata Geiseler.

Location: South Andaman Island, India.

Habit: Shrubs or trees, 2 - 5 m high.

Habitat: Common from littoral forests to edges of evergreen forests on sandstone or clayey soil, at low altitudes.

Distribution: India (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), Thailand, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia (Sumatra and Java) to New Guinea and N. Australia.
