The current accepted name of this plant as per Kew Plant List is Jatropha gossypiifolia L.   ( Please note in all the earlier posts also the spelling should be with double 's ' and double ' i ').
- Stipules are present as a vegetative character in the family Euphorbiaceae. These are in the form of glands in Jatropha I suppose.

Nice pictures, though...
Yes Jatropha gossypifolia. In J. glanduligfera flowers are greenish-yellow and leaves not tinged red.

Perhaps this may be the cause for wrong identification.
Yes, Sir it is - Jatropha gossypiifolia... the culprit is -
http://opendata.keystone-foundation.org/jatropha-glandulifera-roxb
Thank you Sir for the correct ID and related links. According to plant groups both are LAL-BHARENDA in Bengali, but the book doesn't describe them.
I apologize for using the rude word, "culprit", .... internet sometimes is so misleading.
However, i downloaded and read the description of J. gossypiifolia and agreed at once. Attaching the pdf file here, file source is - http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/documents/Biosecurity_EnvironmentalPests/IPA-BellyacheBush-PSA.pdf

I have an earlier upload, identified by experts.
A little while ago as i was trying to find the same plant in Bengal Plants, i found -
J. gossypifolia L.; F. B. I. v. 383.; J. glandulifera E. D. J. 52. (not gossipii; no F. I. connection; native of Brazil)
Now, what is that "E. D. J."? some kind of journal?
Excellent photo, close up of the flower (second image), nice...........

wonders of seeds and stories ! :  11 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (1).
I have a facebook account, though registered with a "fake" id. Don't ask me why "fake"... it has reason I won't explain here. I would rather say it is not a case of forgery, but a 'dummy' id to hide oneself. In that account I am attached to a group that shares pictures of wild plants of West Bengal, for identification or otherwise. Sometimes I try to identify and othertimes I fail. The group is not much active, me too!
In that group I have a friend, another Didi - ...
About a year ago, in that facebook group, when I posted a flower of Jatropha gossypiifolia L., that too with a wrong ID (Jatropha glandulifera Roxb.), Ruby Di asked me, "Isn't it PUTUL GACH?"
(PUTUL = Doll; GACH = tree/plant)
I enquired, "What is PUTUL GACH, ... Di?"
... Di replied, "Er phaler bhetar choto choto putul thake, amra chotobelay deshlai bakse pasha-pashi shuie rekhe kheltam!"
(Small dolls can be found inside the fruits of this shrub, we used to play with those keeping them inside empty match-box!)
I thanked ... Di a lot for this hidden treasure of Jatropha!
Nice share, ...!  They indeed look like cute little dolls!
Thanks Surajit ji for sharing.... Cute little dolls..
This is the only seed I loved to collect in my childhood. I spent my early childhood in a town. Later, when I was 12, we moved to the village we are still living.
After moving in to our new home, our own, I searched the surroundings. To my utter amazement I noticed the seeds of KUNCH in a wasteplace behind our new building. My mom told me that it was called KUNCH and it was used to weigh gold! From that day I regularly visited the place to collect KUNCH seeds. I had a small container filled with these beautiful seeds.
But later on, I have never found this vine anywhere. Even after becoming a member of this group, when I searched new places for new species, I have seen it only once in Hooghly. The 2nd time it was in Jhargram.
Someone told me that this vine can be seen in places where there is enough human excreta!
Since ... suggested to initiate this thread I now request Didi to add her story, of seeds of Cardiospermum halicacabum. I came to know about this heart shaped marks from ..., in my earlier upload of this species.
Now, Didi, here is the photograph of the seed with heart.
Really interesting narration of PUTUL GACH story, thanks ... for sharing this, many such correlations are not even recorded by us, it is nice that you have shared one such story..
And, thanks for the nice photo of seeds with heart..

yes agree with you
Originally what iad thought was we should all share some snippets of stories about seeds here and I had said to ... that he should start this thread separately and that it would take a life of its own...
I meant all would contribute some stories about seeds
Its not compulsory but even the ethnobotanical stories from the field would be appropriate...
so do tell us some stories as you and all remember or as they come up
Thank you very much Sir. I have a couple of more stories, but presently I do not have related photographs, I will share when I have those.
One more thread for this seeds and story thread
... just showed a radish pod along with some flowers... Memari-skDec11 - Raphanus sativus L.
these is a story there...
PLEASE ADD YOUR STORY IF YOU RECALL SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE MOGRI...
In 1970-80s shampoo wasn't popular in rural area, neither detergent powder. REETHA was extensively used for washing hair and woollen clothes. When my mom or some other like my aunt or didi (cousin) used them I used to collect seeds, whcih were sort of marbles to me!
This is REETHA, don't know the species, trifoliatus or mukorossi.
wonderful memories
As ... suggested this thread I remembered -
that about a couple of years a junior student found a few seeds on his way to school. He collected not because he wanted to know the name of the tree, in fact I was not at all interested in flora world, he collected because those looked very attractive to him. There were 4 or 5 seeds and he gave me all. I kept those in my home for reason unknown to even myself! A few days ago I searched my room and found one of those Adenanthera pavonina L. seeds. I am yet to see or record this tree. As I googled a little while ago I came across another similar looking one - http://itp.lucidcentral.org/id/fnw/key/FNW_Mimosoideae/Media/Html/fact_sheets/Prosopis_palmeri.htm.

Jatropha gossypiifolia L.

Could it be Jatropha gossypiifolia

Thanks, ... Confirmed so by ...
shouldn't the younger leaves be redder with not so wide leaflets, shouldn't they be more pointed ended? its a common weed in dryer parts of Bengal in unkempt lands.
