A small cultivated, garden plant seen at a resort in Bhimtal on 23/3/13, having pink flowers in bloom.

Yes, it does looks like some Azalea sp. (family: Ericaceae).

Looks like Azalea to me.
Azalea for me too.
I had posted long back similar flowers from Kodai.
After lot of searching, seems they are Satsuki Azalea, Azalea Bush, Southern Indica Hybrid Azalea.
Botanical name is Rhododendron indicum.
... seems right with the id.
