Yes the leaves looked like Eleagnus but the longer flowers made me confused (2nd picture). But I should have noticed the 4 lobed corolla (in Solanaceae it is 5 lobed).

Small deciduous tree or shrub with spiny branches; leaves alternate, 2-6 cm long, elliptic-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, green above, covered with peltate silvery scale beneath; petiole 3-6 mm long; flowers yellowish white, fragrant, in axillary clusters of 2-4 flowers, appearing with young leaves; pedicel 3-6 mm long; perianth tube 8-11 mm long, tubular; lobes 4, triangular-ovate 3 mm long lobes, silvery outside; stamens slightly exserted; fruit ovoid, 7-9 mm long, red when ripe. Elaeagnus parviflora ABMAY01/01 : 4 posts by 2 authors. Strolling about the other evening I came across this untidy shrub near my home. It was growing above a retaining wall with difficult access and I only managed to collect a twig with leaves and flowers. The tiny flowers with square stems had a sickly sweet scent. I went back the next morning with my camera and photograph the shrub. My research shows it to be Elaeagnus parviflora. Please advise. I will look out for the edible fruit. E. parviflora Wall. is now known as E. angustifolia var. orientalis. Elaeagnus indica from Pacchaimalai hills: Very interesting plant Elaeagnus indica found under Nothopegia colebrookiana–Diospyros ovalifolia –Psydrax dicoccos series in Peria shola Reserve Forest (Evergreen Forest) in Pacchaimalai hills. It is situated to the north of Turaiyur taluk of Tiruchirappalli districts, TN. Fruits of this plant also used by tribes for edible and medicinal purposes. On examination, I feel it does not matches with Elaeagnus indica Serv. as per high resolution specimens at GBIF & Flora of peninsular India I find it closer to Elaeagnus parvifolia Wall. ex Royle as per comparative images, details and references herein. (but I do not know whether this has earlier been reported from South India) Daphne papyracea from Himachal Pradesh-GS28102020-1 : 4 posts by 3 authors.
