Pl. Check comparative images in EFI at Cucurbitaceae
Solena amplexicaulis (Lam.) Gandhi in Saldanha & Nicolson (accepted name)  ???
Solena heterophylla Lour. (Synonym) ??
http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=110&taxon_id=220012657
Pl. check with Review of the Genus Solena (Cucurbitaceae) Authors: Wilde, W.J.J.O. De; Duyfjes, B.E.E. Source: Blumea - Biodiversity, Evolution and Biogeography of Plants, Volume 49, Number 1, May 2004 , pp. 69-81(13).
There was lot of confusion earlier in efi posts, but we have sorted that out based on Review of the Genus Solena (Cucurbitaceae)
As per this it does not match with images of Solena amplexicaulis
It should rather be Solena heterophylla (as per images herein)
As per the CoL, Solena heterophylla Lour. is synonym for accepted name Solena amplexicaulis (Lam.) Gandhi in Saldanha & Nicolson.
Is it correct ?

Pl. follow the publication I have sent the link.
Location: Pharping, Nepal

These were shot at the same location as above.
Wondering if it is  Solena amplexicaulis (Lam.) Gandhi in Saldanha & Nicolson (accepted name) ??? Solena heterophylla Lour. (Synonym) ?? as per the Catalog of Life  and the Plant list.

Yes, appears to be the same plant with the correct name as I stated earlier as per the publication link. COL is not correct in this.
Thank you for the finalization of the ID.
Solena heterophylla Lour.
Nepali name : बन काँक्रो Ban Kaankro  / गोल  काँक्री Gol Kaankree / तिल्कोरे Tilkore

- This is Solena amplexicaulis [S.heterophylla]. Sending you one of my photographs taken at my farm. Also please check the archives of this group for my other photographs of this.
- I am just curious why it is called amplexicaulis? The leaf is not amplexicaulis in the picture.
- Solena amplexicaulis is a highly polymorphic species with lots of variation in the shape & size of leaves and fruits and also in the length of petiole, etc.
May be that is the reason it has got several synonyms. One of the synonyms, S. heterophylla, also denotes the variable nature of leaves in this plant (for nonbotanists: hetero=different; phylla=leaves).
Dr.K.N.Gandhi worked on its nomenclature to bring out clarifications. Dr. Chakravarty, who revised this family for BSI's Flora of India opined that "this is an extremely heteromorphic species amongst the Cucurbits" and he also suggested segregation of this taxon into many varieties and forms.
I think it should be Solena heterophylla Lour. subsp. heterophylla as per DeWilde_Solena_Blumea2004 (1).pdf

THIS IS USE FOR WORSHIP IN OUR REGION FOR NAGPANCHMI
FESTIVAL, ACCORDING TO COMMON NAME I HAVE FIND NAME solena amplexicaulis

I think Solena amplexicaulis of Cucurbitaceae family.
Agreed. Flowering generally occurs between August and October, but this year it commenced early in June and ended abruptly around the 3rd week of July. Sending a few photographs.
Please also check the archives of this group for my previous photographs of the leaves, flowers & fruit.

It seems that you are collecting a good data on phenology as well. That is great!
Thanks for sharing valuable information on the early flowering. Do you think that the early flowering is because of early onset of monsoon and good amount of summer showers.
Further, the series of pictures are very nice depicting most of the characters of the pretty climber. The amplexicaul leaves (leaves having lobes that completely surround the stem.) are clearly visible in the second and last pictures.
You could be right. This year the monsoons arrived early and has been pretty heavy in the catchment areas with 3 of the 5 lakes supplying water to Bombay already overflowing.
Currently awaiting mass flowering of the Glory Lily [Gloriosa superba].
I think it should be Solena heterophylla Lour. subsp. heterophylla as per DeWilde_Solena_Blumea2004 (1).pdf

Solena amplexicaulis Syn. Melothria heterophylla
A climber of Cucurbitaceae family.
Observed growing wild in Mulshi area Western ghats.
Both the names indicate some characters found in it.
The amplexicaul nature of the leaves which also show heterophylly i.e different types of leaf shapes.
We had discussion on this recently through ...  post.
Some description.... Flowers tiny may be less than a cm. Axillary often in pira or cluster of 3-4 flowers.
Leaves 5-6 cm. Oval but of variable shapes. Tendrils present.

Simply superb pictures!  Really amplexicaulius leaves and the variation of leaves is also depicted!

It may not be Solena amplexicaulis as it is distributed in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala & Endemic as per The Cucurbitaceae of India:Accepted names, synonyms, geographic distribution, and information on images and DNA sequences by Susanne S. Renner, Arun K. Pandey. (2013).
Other species are Solena heterophylla Lour. subsp. heterophylla (syn. Melothria heterophylla (Lour.) Cogn. widely distributed all over India &

Hooghly today - Solena amplexicaulis (Lam.) Gandhi : Attachments (6). 1 post by 1 author.
This looks like the one in - https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/a---l/cl/cucurbitaceae/solena/solena-amplexicaulis
Pandey. (2013).
Other species are Solena heterophylla Lour. subsp. heterophylla widely distributed all over India &
Solena heterophylla Lour. subsp. napaulensis (Ser.) W.J.de Wilde & Duyfjes distributed in Western Himalaya (Garhwal, Kumaon hills, Uttarakhand) as per The Cucurbitaceae of India
I am attaching the only published revision of the genus Solena (by W. deWilde and his wife in Blumea 2004). It contains illustrations and a key to the three species that deWilde recognizes in this genus:
Abstract copied here:
"The genus Solena Lour. is redefined, and its 3 species and 1 subspecies are keyed out and described:
S. amplexicaulis occurs in S India, S. heterophylla, with 2 subspecies is widespread, but does not
occur in S India, and S. umbellata (Klein ex Willd.) W.J. de Wilde & Duyfjes, comb. nov., occurs
in S India and Sri Lanka. The status of S. heterophylla subsp. napaulensis (Ser.) W.J. de Wilde &
Duyfjes, comb. & stat. nov. needs further study as this subspecies is very similar to the more widespread
subsp. heterophylla, but it is distinct by sigmoid thecae. Solena amplexicaulis is taxonomically
more distinct from the other two species of Solena. In southern India Kedrostis foetidissima much
resembles Solena in general habit, especially by the more or less amplexicaul leaves, and therefore
it is discussed and keyed out against Solena"
Attachment- DeWilde_Solena_Blumea2004 (1MB)

Yes, ..., but interestingly, i think, it does qualify Momordica umbellata of Flora Indica iii. 710.

This could be Solena amplexicaulis (Family: Cucurbitaceae).
I agree with.. id.
But the last image looks different, may be of a Vitaceae member.
I agree with .., the last picks  looks different, is there any chance of its beeing from different plant, though the leaves are extremely polymorphic in Solena amplexicaulis
Extremely apologetic about the error... you're right .. the last image was from a different berry creeper....
It may not be Solena amplexicaulis as it is distributed in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala & Endemic as per The Cucurbitaceae of India: Accepted names, synonyms, geographic distribution, and information on images and DNA sequences by Susanne S. Renner, Arun K. Pandey. (2013).

Govind Ghat - Ghangaria trail ... 5800 - 10160 ft
Habitat: along trail on mountain slope
Habit: climber
, aspects of flower resembles Solena amplexicaulis
... however the fruit seems different from that observed in Western Ghats.
Looks like Diplocyclos palmatus syn Bryonopsis palmatus
Perhaps yes
Here are ours from Chakrata: both species
Diplocyclos
Solena

To me it looks like Solena amplexicaulis
Putting pictures for comparison:
Posted plant
Solena amplexicaulisDiplocyclos Palmatus

Yes Solena appears the closest choice.
Yes Sir leaves and flowers are different in both and clearly seen in ... Post
Need clarification regarding whether shape of Solena amplexicaulis does vary.
Yes ... leaf shape varies but not of flowers
pls see attached picture of mine shot from Govindghat-Ghangriya Trek
Tendrils in focus should be conclusive, as leaves can vary. Tendrils are simple in Solena, forked in Diplocyclos
Need clarification regarding whether shape of Solena amplexicaulis fruit does vary.
My concern is about the fruit in the posted plant - is kind of ellipsoid with pointed ends, with no signs of ridges; ... in the comparative pictures, have posted a Solena amplexicaulis fruit which in growing stage is already elongated, shows hint of ridges too.
Young fruit always looks different from a mature fruit. You should concentrate on shape of corolla: in Solena and your plant corolla lobes are very small and somewhat recurved, in Diplocyclos they are very long (tube very small) and spreading. Also in your specimens I could not detect any forked tendril. I think we better go with Solena only.
I think it should be Solena heterophylla Lour. (may be subsp. napaulensis) as per attachment (DeWilde_Solena_Blumea2004 (1).pdf)

    Could this be Solena amplexicaulis
Pictures taken at Kasara, Maharashtra in Aug 2016
    Thanks, ..., for detailed images.
    Yes, Solena amplexicaulis.
I think Solena heterophylla as per images & discussions herein.
Solena heterophylla Lour. and Solena amplexicaulis (Lam.) Gandhi are 2 different species and are both accepted names in theplantlist (ver 1.1) database.
I understand that you are referring to
an excellent paper in Phytokeys (2013) by Renner and Pandey (The Cucurbitaceae of India: Accepted names, synonyms, geographic distribution, and information on images and DNA sequences) in support of the name S heterophylla, which is fine. The paper states that S amplexicaulis does not occur in the geography from where this plant is reported.
Hope it clarifies the matter for those unaware of it.
Thanks, ... Yes, referring to the stated paper.

Sir please check Passifloraceae, Adenia wightiana? and Other species.

    Why not Solena heterophylla?

    Thank you ...!
    Solena heterophylla subsp. heterophylla  ??
    I expect some clarification.
Which one is the correct accepted name according to the following links.
What is the difference between Solena heterophylla subsp. heterophylla and Solena heterophylla ?

Thanks, ... Any species is first described as e. g. Solena heterophylla
This you can say is Solena heterophylla subsp. heterophylla.
If subsequently, any other subspecies of this species is described, only than we use subsp. heterophylla. Otherwise we simply call it Solena heterophylla.

There has been confusion regarding taxonomy of this species and we have got correct details in efi site, based on latest publication from Renner and Pandey. Pl. check.

Is this too Solena heterophylla Lour.   ?? or subspecies ??
Why so much variations in leaf shapes for this sp.??

Thanks, ... I do not remember seeing such a variation in our earlier post. Pl. check all posts again in our site.

Not only leaves, but the pedicels are also unlike the ones I have seen..

Checked all Cucubitaceae in the following link but could not get a match.

    So many variations of leaves.
Going through all details, I feel it should be female flowers of Solena heterophylla only.
Thank you ...  Me too. Recently I have noticed three types of leaves from a single plant which I shall post in few days time.
