This interesting looking wild species Cucurbita foetidissima was found growing at Mariposa near Yosemite valley in california.  
The plant is a foetid perennial herb with massive underground tuber.  
Young green fruits are cooked as vegetable but when yellow and ripe they become bitter and not edible.
