I think last picture is somewhat different
I dont think last picture is of Ipomoea mauritiana
... the last two photos can be seen at:
1) http://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/1251472510/in/photostream/
2) http://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/1251484452/in/photostream/
both clicked at Sanjay Gandhi National Park ... both at August 26, 2007 at 8.45am IST ... must be a matter of few seconds' difference.
BUT there is mix-up of plants.
The cluster of buds belong to I. mauritiana ... please validate.

Was there any recent nomenclatural change for this plant?
For me this looks like Argeryia sp.?
I would like to bring to light a factor which I perceive to be relevant and that is the historical confusion between Ipomoea digitata and Ipomoea mauritiana.
Ipomoea digitata and Ipomoea mauritiana are both legitimate species but descriptions of the 2 contain sufficient over-lapping features to
instill confusion.
So far, I have been unable to (with any certainty) distinguish between Ipomoea digitata and Ipomoea mauritiana and photos on the web
using both epithets appear to be the same plant.
I have seen Ipomoea digitata listed as a synonym of Ipomoea mauritana and Ipomoea mauritiana listed as a synonym of Ipomoea digitata.
Here is a synonym I have for Ipomoea digitata :
Ipomoea rubrocincta
Ipomoea paniculata var. digitata

Here is the list of synonyms I have for Ipomoea mauritiana :
Synonym:Ipomoea ennealoba
Synonym:Ipomoea eriosperma
Synonym:Ipomoea insignis
Synonym:Ipomoea eriosperma
Synonym:Ipomoea paniculata

A check for both names in http://ipni.org/ipni/plantnamesearchpage.do may prove useful
There are various subtypes listed for Ipomoea digitata
I perceive that Ipomoea mauritiana must be clearly distinguished from Ipomoea digiitata before any definitive ID's can be arrived at for
these 2 similarly featured species.
I hope my thoughts on the matter may be of some value...

I also have been thinking that perhaps I. digitata and I. mauritiana are sufficiently distinct. This conclusion is base on the climber which I had uploaded from Delhi, and was variously identified (most suggesting I. batatas; but having seen I. batatas was not convinced) but I finally found it matching with some photographs of I. digitata on the net. I am uploading the same for comparison and validation.

Thanks for your photo contributions as they clearly show that the sepals are very distinctly different.
The leaves of both species (including variant forms) can look very similar and the corolla color may also vary.

I personally would be interested to see closeups of the seeds of both species for comparison.
True climbers have stems and stem tips that either always twine or at least have the ability to twine when encountering something to climb,
as compared to a plant with non-twining stems that may weave through bushes or lean on a support and therefore some branches grow upward but not truly climbing.
The ars-grin has the following entries for some reference
Ipomoea mauritiana
http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?311648
Ipomoea digitata auct.
http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?406359
Ipomoea digitata
http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?20159
I do perceive that Ipomoea mauritiana and Ipomoea digitata are distinct species but the descriptions in the literature and keys still contains enough over-lap of features to make a clear differential challenging and it is my thoughts that the sepals and seeds may be the most important parts to examine for a clearer distinction between the 2 species, especially when all the variations of the corolla and leaves are taken into consideration.

Lovely picture ...
The Malayalam name seems to be missing the second letter. It is പാല്‍മുതുക്ക്. It means 'milky tuber'.
Yet another name for the same plant that I came across in Malayalam is അഞ്ചിലത്താളി (Anjilathali).
The term 'താളി' (thali) is a general Malayalam word used to indicate any leaf whose extract can be used as a shampoo. Anjila means five leaves. So the name would mean 'Five-leaved thali'. Perhaps these leaves are used as a shampoo. I am not sure.

Can you please ID this ornamental climber with large pink flowers. It trails on other trees and fences. Photo was taken in a private property in Dec 2012
If the flower is about 6 cm then this would be Ipomoea mauritiana
Ipomoea nauritiana commonly known as Palmuthakku in Malayalam
