Ipomoea coccinea L. (Images by Gurcharan Singh & Santhan P)- As per efi thread : The most important feature to capture for Ipomoea hederifolia to differentiate from Ipomoea coccinea is the calyx of the fruit in various stages... The leaves on both Ipomoea hederifolia and Ipomoea coccinea can mimic each other (I know because I have grown enough of them myself) but the pedicels of Ipomoea hederifolia always remain erect while the pedicels of Ipomoea coccinea reflex... So, in my experience trying to differentiate Ipomoea hederifolia from Ipomoea coccinea using any other part except the calyx and pedicel will lead you astray...

Ipomoea indica (Burm.) Merr. (Images by Gurcharan Singh) - As per efi thread: Species (I. nil) appearing similar to I. indica but with sepals densely hirsute at base, often slightly curved above, lighter coloured smaller flowers. As per efi thread : The main feature of distinction is calyx lobes. in I. indica calyx lobes are 10-20 mm long, ovate-lanceolate and long acuminate, pubescent or glabrous. In I. nil sepals are 15-25 mm long, narrowly lanceolate, tapering into long tip and more importantly long hirsute especially near base. In fact I. hederacea is very close to I. nil, but tips of calyx calyx lobes in fruit are straight in I nil, but curved to one side or recurved in I. hederacea.

Indian species of Ipomoea : 9 posts by 7 authors.
Taxonomy of Indian species of Convolvulaceae is most incomplete mainly because The Plant List, supposed to include all published names of plants on this earth has huge number of names missing, as evidenced by my numerous communications to them. Same is true for the genus Ipomoea. In an attempt to construct an easy to use key I have first tried to compile a list of species described/reported from Indian subcontinent. As usual I have attempted to include all names under Ipomoea described in Flora of British India and some transferred now to other genera. This would be for easy reference to the original Flora, till an Indian revision of the family is published (or has been published?):
I am sure the list will have many omissions and errors. You are requested to kindly help improve it before it is finalized.

Recent taxonomy of Convolvulaceae largely revolves around pollen grains and dehiscence if fruits, in addition to usual features of corolla shape, styles and stigma. This is how the closely related genera once placed under Ipomoea are segregated:

Merremia: Pollen smooth, porate; capsule opening irregularly or by 4-valves.

Operculina: Pollen smooth, porate; capsule circumscissile.

Ipomoea: Pollen spinose, colpate; fruit dry capsule usually opening by 4 valves; corolla usually glabrous outside; calyx slightly enlarged in fruit.

Stictocardia: Pollen spinose, colpate; fruit dry capsule splitting irregularly; calyx greatly enlarged enclosing the fruit.

Rivea: Pollen spinose, colpate; fruit indehiscent; corolla pubescent outside; corolla salverform; stamens attached near middle of the tube; fruits dry

Argyreia: Pollen spinose, colpate; fruit indehiscent; corolla pubescent outside; corolla funnel-shaped; stamens attached below middle of the tube; fruits usually fleshy or leathery.

Perhaps more as we finalize our list.

This is really interesting and highly informative and can be a baseline for further studies on the genus.
Nice work is a small word to express my feelings.

I have added a few more species in the above list as above with A & B

Ipomoea : 1 post by 1 author.

I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Ipomoea

Attempts have been made to incorporate most of the species available in India & nearby areas with details & keys directly or through links as far as possible. It’s quite possible that there may be some discrepancy in the accepted names & synonyms taken from other links.

Species discussed so far in efloraofindia are given at the bottom of the page in the form of links against Subpages. On clicking them one can see all the details.

If someone can provide complete list of Indian species with source references it will be wonderful.

Any comments/ corrections are welcome.
Thanks, ... for starting some initial work here.

Some species were already done by yourself
1) could not insert images for I.soluta as images could not be opened or seen
2) Also could not see/open images for I.staphylina by ...
3) In I.staphylina images by ... could only be viewed not copied for insertion
4) In I. staphylina there are similar threads by ... one is a forward
Pardon me if I have misunderstood the above
Thanks, ...

Pl. go through Ipomoea page (‎‎‎‎‎Convolvulaceae) with images of species in efloraofindia (done mainly by ...).

If you find any mis-identification, pl. let us know.

If anybody can send images of other species of this genera (for incorporation in the website), it will be really nice. Also, if anybody is interested to take up the activity of inserting images on efloraofindia pages from efloraofindia posts, pl. let us know.
