Kindly identify this wild prostrate herb with blue flowers photographed in the Arunachala Reserve Forest, Tiruvannamalei, Tamil Nadu in September 2014.
The second picture shows a branch of the herb emerging from bottom right, lighter green than the grass.
Evolvulus alsinoides
I had earlier uploaded an enquiry to identify a herb which i photographed in Rajasthan, which had been identified as Evolvulus alsinoides also.
In this case, given that it has been identified as the same species, may it be inferred that when the photograph was taken the petals of the flower seem to be folding over, possibly to conserve moisture?
Attachments (3)

I never knew the leaves were supposedly hirsuite
some mix up I think with the earlier diagnosis
Link to earlier upload
Though I have not seen this species yet the leaves are densely appressed hairy or silky underneath as per Haines in "Botany of Bihar and Orissa". Bengal Plants and FBI also support that. And also leaves are very variable in shape.
well
[efloraofindia:204202] Herb for ID Tiruvannamalei, Tamil Nadu NAW-OCT-19
if this thread pictures are Evolvulus alsinoides
then the rajasthan pictures are not
two different creatures
look at the thickness of individual hair and their abundace
flower and leaf size and shape are also different
Thank you ..., I do not know.
may be difference of young plant or plant in lush environment vs rajasthan's dry land
but only a thorough study of several plants from each place and of plants of various ages ...young, flowering beginning, ending flowering and seed production (i believe these are annuals in the wild, so can be studied in one season)
untill then these two seem to be different creatures

Occasionally seen as weed in the gardens.

It is Evolvulus alsinoides (L.) L. of Convolvulaceae.

THE FLOWERS REMIND ME OF skyblue clustervine
But the leaves are rougher in your pictures. not shiny thin bright green ones i had in my houseplant
may be because yours is perhaps growing "wild" without  much Nitrogen in soil?
lets wait for an expert

My Guess is
Evolvulus alsinoides
Herb ...prostrate. Leaves elliptic oblong subsessile, appressed silky, acute to obtuse at base and also at apex. Flowers axillary, pedunculate.. Corolla blue rarely white.Around a cm size. Leaf size I hope Upto 2cm bye 0.3to
0.5cm.

Everything is visible in your pictures.
It is Evolvulus alsinoides 'Vishnukrant'
Bye the way side view of the flower is missing as against in almost all of your posts (Consider this as a compliment han) and the leaf in the background of close upshots belong to some other plant I hope.

'Vishnukrant' विष्णुक्रान्त
I would like to know whether 'Vishnukrant' is a shrub more than 5' tall with flowers of size about 1" . This herb was about 6" tall and the flower size was around 5 mm.
You are right. This is E.alsinoides a prostrate herb of 10- 15 cm total length. The other climber you are talking about is an ornamental climber Jacquemontia earlier discussed during the Convolvulaceae week. If the size of the flower is not mentioned one is often fooled by the ID

But the leaves are rougher in your pictures. not shiny thin brightgreen ones i had in my houseplant
may be because yours is perhaps growing "wild" without  much Nitrogen in soil?

Evolvulus alsinoides  (L.) L.

yes. i once had this in a hanging basket.
seems it was popular in nursery trade a few years ago
The Evolvulus grown in hanging basket is an ornamental species E.glomeratus. It looks very similar! Evolvulus alsinoides is wild and one of the shanku pushpis' used in Aayurveda in South.
Both are seen nearby my house. One in wild and another in a garden !
i know. thats why i was surprised that some one in Hugli district (WB) was able to grow it (because its very rainy and humid here). so i paid a lot of money to buy it but after a season in the balcony i did not get any seeds.
where as in Saurashtra around Dwarka etc it self seeded and grew in abundance.
Have you photographed both? to show the differentiation in your neighbourhood.

I will photograph and send them
Flower size...
Smaller than thumb-nail= E. alsinoides.
More or less about size of two thumb-nails = E. glomeratus.
Thanks ... These flowers were just about a centimetre across.
I think the long pedicel is good characteristic of E. alsinoides; I am not sure of E. glomeratus pedicel length. Any way the E. glomeratus flower is relatively quite large.
my hanging basket flowers were small about 1 to less than 2 cms
I am sending the photographs of E.glomeratus grown on a neighbor house compound wall. The area where the E.alsinoides was present was cleared by the Corporation (cleaning drive)..  Nevertheless, I will spot somewhere else and post you the photographs.
Thank you, ... I also noticed besides being larger flower, the stem is hairy unlike the A. alsinoides
