Kindly identify this wild prostrate herb with blue flowers photographed in the Arunachala Reserve Forest, Tiruvannamalei, Tamil Nadu in September 2014. The second picture shows a branch of the herb emerging from bottom right, lighter green than the grass. Evolvulus alsinoides I had earlier uploaded an enquiry to identify a herb which i photographed in Rajasthan, which had been identified as Evolvulus alsinoides also. In this case, given that it has been identified as the same species, may it be inferred that when the photograph was taken the petals of the flower seem to be folding over, possibly to conserve moisture? Evolvulus alsinoides is wild and one of the shanku pushpis' used in Aayurveda in South. Both are seen nearby my house. One in wild and another in a garden ! i know. thats why i was surprised that some one in Hugli district (WB) was able to grow it (because its very rainy and humid here). so i paid a lot of money to buy it but after a season in the balcony i did not get any seeds. where as in Saurashtra around Dwarka etc it self seeded and grew in abundance. Any way the E. glomeratus flower is relatively quite large. my hanging basket flowers were small about 1 to less than 2 cms I am sending the photographs of E.glomeratus grown on a neighbor house compound wall. The area where the E.alsinoides was present was cleared by the Corporation (cleaning drive).. Nevertheless, I will spot somewhere else and post you the photographs. Thank you, ...
