Photographed from near Chakauri in Uttaranchal Pradesh
Shrub with alternate, narrowly elliptic-lanceolate leaves, mostly 3-6 cm long, narrowed at both ends, petiole 5-15 mm or more; flowers small barely 3-5 mm across, creamish, in clusters forming spreading panicles; flowers remind of Phyllanthus, but these seem to be pentamerous.
Kindkly help in ID.
It may be a Gymnosporia species, not sure though.
Of the four possible species G. emarginata, G. royleana, G. senegalensis and G. rufa, I think it best matches with Gymnosporia rufa Wall., now correctly named as Maytenus rufa (Wall.) Hara, a slender shrub with sparingly spiny branches, lanceolate leaves, flowers very small with barely 1-1.5 mm long petals on branches up to 5 cm long clusters.
But perhaps the nomenclature of the plant has to be resolved. Flora of British India records Gymnosporia rufa (Wall. in Roxb.) Lawson, based on Celastrus rufa Wall. in Roxb., and this is treated as accepted name in The Plant List.
Flowers of Himalaya records Maytenus rufa (Wall.) Hara as accepted name, whereas as The plant List records Maytenus rufa (Wall.) Cufod., 1962, perhaps because combination by Hara is of a later date.
It is rather confusing how both can be correct names, unless they are two different species.
But then if we follow Flora of China, the two are same with Gymnosporia rufa (Wall) Lawson as correct name and Maytenus rufus (Wall.) Cufod. as synonym.

Maytenus rufa (=Gymnosporia rufa).
It would be good if the photographers share the exact location and altitude.

please identify this shrub in the picture. It is from Uttarakhand.
Leaves look like that of Dilleniaceae.....Floral characters are needed...
It appears to be same as identified by ... in another thread:
"Maytenus rufa (=Gymnosporia rufa).

the pictures were taken long time back and I have no idea of the place at the moment.
More snaps are here if that helps. Attachments (2)

Family?
No idea
Rutaceae by any chance?

Sorry ...! Did not find a match !
I think it can be Berberis sp.

A species of Euonymus I think

In that case you can try Euonymus hamiltonianus Wall. having typical turbinate fruits which may be shallowly to deeply lobed and as a result so many varieties were described under the name from time to time.

Not getting any other species with such obovoid-turbinate fruits!
Yes ... Fruit shape is not matching with any of Euonymus sp.

You please keep track on this tree until next flowering season if possible. May be interesting!
Thanks, ..., for pointing towards the family.
Closest I can I reach is Gymnosporia rufa (Wall. ex Roxb.) M.A.Lawson as per comparative images at Celastraceae
To me it appears to be the correct id.

I guess there is no match at all with Gymnosporia rufa !

Why do you say so ?
Everything from stem to leaves to fruits seem to match with other images at Gymnosporia rufa (Wall. ex Roxb.) M.A.Lawson

I was confused about the shape of the  fruit. I re-checked and guess you are right …
