Elaeodendron glaucum

Elaeodendron glaucum (Rottb.) Pers., Syn. pl. 1:241. 1805 (syn. (≡) Cassine glauca (Rottb.) Kuntze; (≡) Mangifera glauca Rottb. (basionym));

Nirija, Noorijia, Bhutan-kusama • Kannada: Kannurmara, Mookurichi, Kannire

The names Elaeodendron and Cassine have been confused for centuries. However, my own research and DNA analysis proved that this plant is Elaeodendron. The genus Cassine with only 3 species, occur in South Africa and looks very different, both in flowers and fruit from Elaeodendron.

A part of flowering tree from Darjiling is shown. ID requested.
This is probably Elaeodendron glaucum, celastraceae
This should be Large Leaf Dogwood (Cornus macrophylla)
http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Large%20Leaf%20Dogwood.html
Indeed the new name is Cassine glauca ; previously known as Elaeodendron glaucum.
Attaching one of my pics (1).
Thank you very much for the picture. Can you please tell me where it is from?
I am not sure it is Cassine glauca. According to Kostermans, who wrote the partial revision of the genus, this plant is Cassine albens, with red fruit. The "real" Cassine glauca, occurs only in Sri Lanka and has white fruit. But his description of the flower, green flowers with white tips does conform to the flower in your picture. I need some help to understand what is going on here! Did Kostermans confused the species?
Secondly, the names Elaeodendron and Cassine have been confused for centuries. However, my own research and DNA analysis proved that this plant is Elaeodendron. The genus Cassine with only 3 species, occur in South Africa and looks very different, both in flowers and fruit from Elaeodendron.
The photo is from Wai, which near Mahabaleshwar in the central Western Ghat hills of Maharashtra state.
I named it after identification from the 'Flora of Maharashtra state' brought out by the botanical survey of India ; where they mention the authority as :
Cassine glauca (Rottb.) O.Ktze. Rev.Gen.Pl.1:114.1891; Ding Hou in Steenis; Flora Males. 1,6:286.1962.
Elaeodendron glaucum (Rottb.) Pers.Syn. Pl1:241. 1805.
I have no idea as to how to separate Cassine from Elaeodendron; being an amateur myself.
I leave the further search for the correct botanical name to you.

Thank you very much for your valuable reply. I assume at this stage that this plant would be correctly called Elaeodendron glaucum (Rottb.) Pers. I am however, curious to know weather there are possibly two species involved, one with white and the other with red fruit. Or was that something that came out of old botanical literature? Is it possible to send me more pictures of the leaves and fruit? I would be very grateful.
Attaching another photo (1): but I think these are buds, not fruit : I don't remember; I shot it a long time ago!
The leaves are ovate with serrate margins
Thank you very much. It shows very nicely the conspicuous very slender inflorescence (for Elaeodendron) and buds.
Sending a few recent photographs (3) of Cassine glauca with flower buds.
I think as per Dr. Archer's views earlier on ... picture, it should be Elaeodendron glaucum (Rottb.) Pers.
Pl. correct me if I am inferring wrongly.
As per GRIN Taxonomy website Elaeodendron glaucum (Rottb.) Pers. is the correct name and Cassine glauca (Rottb.) O.Ktze. as a synonym. It is good to follow local Flora, but as every Flora book sooner or later will become older, we keep the strategy of following KEW World Checklist (for families covered), GRIN Taxonomy and Sorting Plant Names, where ever available in that sequence. They keep on updating nomenclature. Only where recent nomenclature is not available for any species, we will follow the most recent local Flora, that covers this species.

Yes I too think this as Elaeodendron glaucum Syn. Cassine glauca भुत्या.
Elaeodendron glaucum. Syn. Cassine glauca is the correct id.
The dichotomous branching of the cyme is also well seen.
Season, location and fruit match.
I can accompany you in the evening if possible to check details

Cassine glauca?
For me too, the fruits reminds of Cassine gluaca

my vote is for Cassine gluaca.
Unless this is a cultivated species in Bhopal,  I do not think it is Cassine glauca. Kostermans in Gard. Bull. Sing. 39: 178 listed 3 indian species. Of the three, Cassine albens is a southern Indian species, Cassine glauca is a northern species. It could be Cassine paniculata, of which the fruit is supposedly elliptic, but that could be a mistake.  Cassine glauca occur in Sri Lanka only, and has elliptic fruit with sharp ends
It definitely matches with the tree which I know as Cassine glauca or Eleodendron glaucum
The fruits as well as leaves.
This may be a cultivated species. It is by the lakeside in front of Cafe Coffee Day so it is possible that someone may have planted it.
Thank you very much. I will be keen to get more photos as the fruit mature, and perhaps send me some of the ripe fruit? If needed I will pay postage.
I shall be looking forward to doing that.

Cassine glauca (Rottb.) Kuntze [Celastraceae] : 5 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (3)
This tree is shot in a river bank inside Mudumalai wls, at ca.600 msl on 01 May 2010.
Cassine glauca (Rottb.) Kuntze of Celastraceae. Kindly correct it, if the name is wrong.

Definitely Celastraceae indeed. I think leaves are not very characteristic. Let us wait for some more opinions.
I cannot really comment on this. Perhaps if I can request more pictures of a closeup of the flowers and a picture of the bark, I would be very grateful. But most importantly, for the identification of Elaeodendron species is a photo of the developing fruit and finally and most important, the ripe fruit. What colour and shape is the fruit? Our information of the fruit of this genus is extremely scanty!
