Caryophyllaceae Week: Dianthus caryophyllus from Delhi: Dianthus caryophyllus L., Sp. pl. 1:410. 1753 Common names: Carnation, divine flower, Gilli-flower, clove pink A glabrous and glacous tufted perennial herb, up to 90 cm tall, branched and woody at base; leaves thick, linear, up to 15 cm long, keeled, 3-5 nerved; flowers 3-8 cm across in 2-5 o a branch, fragrant, long pedicelled; bracts 4, broad, 1/4th the length of calyx; calyx cylindrical, 2.5-3 cm long with pointed teeth; petals irregularly dentate, often double.
