The fruit of prickly pears, commonly called cactus fruit, cactus fig, Indian fig or tuna in Spanish, is edible, although it has to be peeled carefully to remove the small spines on the outer skin before consumption. If the outer layer is not properly removed, glochids can be ingested, causing discomfort of the throat, lips, and tongue, as the small spines are easily lodged in the skin.

This Opuntia was growing wild on Devgad beach, MH. Pics were clicked in May 2017. Requested to please ID. Pl. Check comparative images in efi site at Opuntia page. To me appears close to images at Opuntia elatior Mill. as per comparative images at Opuntia I am unable to get any matching pictures from the net and arrive at any decision. This should be Opuntia elatior Mill. Altitude: about 225 m (740 feet) asl Opuntia elatior Mill. Dear friends, I have no idea why this cactus park at entrance of Kuldhara village is strangely named as "Jurassic". I find from internet that the park was made in 2006 by the government, however is not maintained in any way. The plants within, I am not sure whether they are natives or exotics, which through my posts that follow in this week, we will get to know once identified.
