Epiphyllum oxypetallum: I had an opportunity to see this flowering last week at my home. Surprisingly, it flowered in December. Normally it flowers during July-Sept.- So called Bramhakamal...(!).
- Wow lucky you... though i am saying because you got such beautiful, fragrant flower at home, it is supertition on our side that this flower brings prosparity to owner i am having it only in vegetative condition for last 6 months since i hv planted.. i am waiting for its flower... - It is a type of cactus and the flower blooms during night and last only for the night.

It is Ephiphyllum oxypetalum. Currently it is flowering in batches here in Pune. Maharashtra. We have talked about this before.. Epiphyllum oxypetalum Its one of the Night blooming cereus...(there are several) I had a cutting or two once from Swami Rama of the Himalayas... he had several growing near his kutir in Honesdale, PA. we used to wait (some more dedicated students were more diligent than I) for the flower to bloom at night... From tiny cuttings I grew several plants, and inside the apartment I got them to bloom a few times.. unfortunately no bats flew by to pollinate them... no fruits!!! Date : 29-08-2011 Place : Mysore This is not NOT Brahmakamal of the Sanskrit literature... that Saussurea obvallata.. is very different... we had a very long and interesting discussion about the different cacti that are called NITE BLOOMING CEREUS...your flower is one of them... cant tell the exact species just from flower... st least not me... need to see the cactus itself... Please confirm the id. People call this Bramha Kamal but I think the real Bramha Kamal is Saussurea obvallata. Is this correct? Nice photograph ... I too think this to be Epiphyllum oxypetalum. Most probably Epiphyllum oxypetalum (DC.) Haworth It is: Epiphyllum oxypetallum (bhrama kamal) This plant is Epiphyllum oxypetalum, growing in association with tree (seems Ficus glomerata?) This is not a wild plant. This seems to be buds of Epiphyllum oxypetalum. Commonly planted here as Bramhakamal. Somebody might have planted it on Ficus racemosa. There were a total of 16 flowers that bloomed on that Full Moon Day, known as Adhik Aashad Poornima, all on one plant. Date was 2nd July, 2015, time around 10.30 PM. Beautiful picture, ...! It must have been amazing to observe so many blooms on one plant in your home garden! Congratulations!Such a joy to see this as told by you. Thank you for appreciating my picture. It was an amazing experience. What is more amazing is that these flowers generally bloom on a Full Moon Day. They bloom every year, but I am not there to see the bloom. I was told by my gardener there was a repeat bloom in September.

Attachments (3) Common name Bramhakamalam Place-My residence Epiphyllum Oxypetalum night blooming cereus. each bud opens only once, for a few hours, during the nite, i used to have one on my dining table, warmest spot. it opened started opening suddenly twisted around the stem as it opened filled the room with scent and me with wonder. it was about midnite and then by the morning was closed and next day wilted totally. that was in 1998. not knowing its habit, i thought i had done something wrong that i had somehow not taken good care of it etc etc .... but now i know better. that is its life story...so to say.
