Rorippa indica

Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern, Cat. Afr. Pl. 1: xxvi 1896. (syn: Cardamine atrovirens (Hornem.) Kuntze; Cardamine glandulosa Blanco; Cardamine lamontii Hance; Clandestinaria indica Spach; Nasturtium apetalum A.Chev. (Unresolved); Nasturtium atrovirens (Hornem.) DC.; Nasturtium diffusum DC.; Nasturtium heterophyllum D. Don; Nasturtium indicum (L.) DC.; Nasturtium montanum Wall. ex Hook. f. & Thomson; Nasturtium montanum (Nutt.) Rorippa palustris is easily differentiated from R. indica by its broader much shorter fruits, usually less than 1 cm long. The fruits of latter are 10-15 mm long and barely 1.5 mm broad.
Indian and Chinese specimens have often been confused with R. islandica (restricted o Europe.....according to GRIN and Fl. China) which differs in much smaller flowers with sepals and petals less than 1.5 mm long and fruit more than twice as long as pedicel.

As per efi thread:
According to Bengal Plants -
i) pods hardly longer than pedicels = Nasturtium palustre DC. (now syn. of Rorippa palustris (L.) Besser)
ii) flowers without bracts = N. indicum DC. (now syn. of Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern)
iii) flowers with bracts - N. indicum var. benghalense (now syn. of Rorippa benghalensis (DC.) H. Hara)

Regarding Bengali names of plants, i know only a few species which are popularly known as 'useful plants'. Even then i have often noticed that Bengali names vary regionally, not only for plants but also for various animals like birds, annelids etc.
I certainly will provide Bengali names of plants in my future posts if i know the names or if any particular name is available in reference books (though presently i have only one book, wish to collect a few more within few days). Internet is not always a reliable source for Bengali names.
I and my peers do not know the Bengali name of this wild species, Rorippa indica, which is apparently a weed. However, the Bengali name given to this plant is -

Brassicaceae herb in nalla for id :  Attachments (3). 6 posts by 2 authors.
Saw this low herb in a nalla today (24.12.13). Looks like a Brassicaceae.
Low to the ground, spreading in habit, small yellow flowers.
Please help to id.

I should have mentioned it is in Thane district
This is Rorippa indica. Brassicaceae
i had considered Rorippa indica but in some photos on this site the leaves seemed to differ.
I guess the upper leaves are variable
Yes, the whole plant varies with moisture and nutrients in the harvested fields.

Though I gave my expert's (!) view in one or two occasion on Rorippa uploads, presently I have confusion over the identification of R. indica (L.) Hiren and R. benghalensis (DC.) H. Hara.
There is KEY in FoC. Earlier I submitted two threads and eFI accepted one as R. benghalensis and another as R. indica. But, nothing helps.
I submit here several photographs of a population, recorded this year, on the 27th February, in my village around drainage line. I attach highest size of photographs I have retained so that features can be seen clearly.
I also paste here links of sites from other countries which may help or may not -
I request members' view on the possible ID.
efi page on Rorippa benghalensis & Rorippa indica
I think this is Rorippa indica (L.I Hiern.

Yesterday while looking at a clump of grass in a rain-water drain next to a school football field, I found this plant which I hadn’t seen before. Growing next to it was the watercress. It appears to be the Indian Fieldcress. Please advise me if I am wrong.

Brassicaceae?

Looks like. May be.
It is common weed!
Pl. check with comparative images at Brassicaceae
Sisymbrium irio L.
Someone suggested it to Rorippa palustris!
I don't think it matches.
Please advise !
Pl. check with images of Rorippa benghalensis (DC.) H. Hara as per comparative images at Rorippa

I guess it is matching with Rorippa indica (Linnaeus) Hiern in all aspects.

Yes, Rorippa indica as per details and keys herein.

Which Brassicaceae is this? Very small herb!

Thanks, ... Comparative images available at

This I did not check. I shall do it.

Please check Rorippa palustris

I guess it is not matching and not listed in Nepal.

Rorippa indica.

I guess not matching according to the habitat as well as plant parts size.

I guess not matching according to the habitat as well as plant parts size.

It is very common in India. It may be possibly listed in nepal by it's
any other synonyms.

Do you think ID is correct ? I did not find any synonym also.
Also check all the species and comparative images at Rorippa

I think close to images at Rorippa benghalensis (DC.) H. Hara

Can it grow in wild at such a different elevation?
Are the shape of seed pods matching?

Flora of China says near sea level to 1500 m.
Checklist of Nepal says Himalaya (Nepal, Sikkim), in that case elevation will not be 200-250 m as mentioned here.
By the way, was it near any habitation ? If so, elevation may not matter.

No ...! It is forest !

Ultimately it seems matches with Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern
POW
Thanks, …
As per efi thread:
According to Bengal Plants -
i) pods hardly longer than pedicels = Nasturtium palustre DC. (now syn. of Rorippa palustris (L.) Besser)
ii) flowers without bracts = N. indicum DC. (now syn. of Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern)
iii) flowers with bracts - N. indicum var. benghalense (now syn. of Rorippa benghalensis (DC.) H. Hara)
As the flowers appears to be without bracts, it should be Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern

Which Brassicaceae sp. ??

Pl. check at

Rorippa dubia ?? Listed in Nepal. Does not look like matching.
R. palustris ?? Not listed in Nepal. Looks like matching
Why not

We discussed this species in detail in your another thread.
There is vast difference in the elevation and size of the plant.
I find a lot of elevation details are wrong in Checklist of Nepal.
You have to understand that elevation differences.
in reality may be about something called peripheral population of the plants versus center of the population. there is not only differences in size, there is also some genetic material variation and that is a vast subject, fit for an entire long project and grants for whole department of botany or BSI. we can not solve it here
ok. Thank you.
As per efi thread:
According to Bengal Plants -
i) pods hardly longer than pedicels = Nasturtium palustre DC. (now syn. of Rorippa palustris (L.) Besser)
ii) flowers without bracts = N. indicum DC. (now syn. of Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern)
iii) flowers with bracts - N. indicum var. benghalense (now syn. of Rorippa benghalensis (DC.) H. Hara)
As the flowers appears to be without bracts, it should be Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern
Thank you ...!
What a variation in plant size: 6-75 cm.

Need id of herb from Pali Ghat, Rajasthan.
Leaves are not visible. Pl. check comparative images at Brassicaceae
Rorippa palustris (L.) Besser.
Thanks, Balmukund ji for the genus id.
To me appears more closer to Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern compared to Rorippa palustris (L.) Besser as per images and details herein.
