Brassicaceae Week :: PKA1-170710 :: Cardamine trichocarpa at Matheran: Cardamine trichocarpa (Family: Brassicaceae) .
Syn: Cardamine subumbellata
Location: Matheran
Date/Time:: 17-07-2010 / 09:30AM.
Habitat: Wild
Plant Habit: Herb.
I think Cardamine never has yellow flowers. I confirmed this from Fl. China:
Moreover the petals are shorter than sepals and although white, the flower would look greenish.
It would be interesting to know its identity.
Havng seen the links sent by ..., it identifies with C. subumbllata, which according to The Plant List is a synonym of C. trichocarpa, although flowers of latter look much different typically.
One yellow species of Cardamine. Thanks ... for showing.
The yellow flowered Cardamine......

I did not notice it then as your photographs have few flowers, but after I saw ... upload, I doubt this identification. I have never heard about yellow flowers in Cardamine. Pl. also read Fl. China
Detailed note in ... thread
Many thanks ... for validating this plant's ID.
My ID was based on description in Cooke's Flora of the Presidency of Bombay ... http://www.archive.org/stream/floraofpresidenc01cook#page/30/mode/2up
The description puts colour of flower as pale yellow.
About yellow flowers in Cardamine there are two species listed at http://www.ces.iisc.ernet.in/biodiversity/sahyadri_database/database1/allspecies7.php
Cardamine scutata Thunb. and Cardamine trichocarpa Hochst (there are no direct URLs to their pages - can be reached only via selecting the species in the pull-down list).
Me too now eager to reach conclusion about this plant's ID.
Yes ... If we go through the description of FBI and Cook's Flora, it does look like C. subumbellata Hook.f. & T and if we see The Plant List it is a synonym of C. trichocarpa. So that should be alright, though reading through description of the link below, it should be loser to C. sativa (which FBI also mentions), may be hairy leaves and smaller flowers may be the answer.
Thanks for the links ...
Flora of China mentions white flowers for C. scutata
Thanks for showing me this species with yellow flowers.
Very interesting discussion.
I have not seen this so far in open.
The description in BSI flora of Mah also matches with this. Especially...the leaves:
5-8.5cm long.Leaflets: 5-7 0.8 x 1.0 cm, ovate to suborbicular, obliquely acuminate at base (Seen here)
margins crenate or lobed, radical leaves seldom present. Flowers yellow in corymbs. Pods 1.8 - 2.4 cmlong, linear lanceolate. 4-8 seeded.

... many thanks for validation from BSI flora.
In this case (and many cases) -- If you get to see it; you would get to see it often.
Its very common and as said by ..., if U see it once, U will get to see it often.
