I think the plant in lower part on Right side may be I. tomentosa as I can see the subcordate nature of the leaves. Rest I think are I. oppositifolia. Impatiens oppositifolia : Flowers axillary solitary or 2-3 together.(Lower left picture). Leaves linear lanceolate distinctly serrate. Lip conical like a hook. Impatiens tomentosa: Flowers axillary solitary. Leaves upper linear, sessile obtuse subcordate.. Lower linear lanceolate, elliptic or ovate oblong; margins distinctly serrate. Upper surface hispid or tomentose, lower surface pale tomentose. Spur shorter than flower. Many thanks ... for validating this ID. Impatiens tomentosa and I. oppositifolia are allied, and confuse me often. All three plants are just next to each other, perhaps just a foot's distance from each other. All three have solitary flowers borne in axils, with spurs shorter than flowers; leaves with serrated margins, upper surface hairy. The bottom left picture seems to have more than one flower per axil - because of the photo angle. Clicking on the photo will lead to a larger photo on flickr. Each flower is borne in axil of single leaf. The upper leaves are not obtuse at ends. Not sure about this being a accepted variation. Putting a small para from Rheedea Vol. 21(1) 23-80 2011 -- The genus Impatiens (Balsaminaceae) in the northern and parts of central Western Ghats by Jyosna R.N. Dessai and M.K. Janarthanam ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Impatiens oppositifolia L. is allied to I. tomentosa B. Heyne ex Wight & Arn. but differs in stem, lateral sepals, lip and spur being glabrous. It is also similar to I. raziana Bhaskar & Razi but differs in the presence of lilac to pink-coloured flowers. Impatiens oppositifolia is a very variable species with regard to leaf shape and hairy nature of the pedicel (glabrous or with 1 or 2 rows of hairs). Plants exposed to sunlight and growing in humus rich soil are tall, have semicircular stem with broad leaves whereas those growing in shade are stunted with quadrangular stem, linear and smaller leaves. There are variations in the spur as well. The spur in material collected in Amboli region is straight, hooked or straight and curved inwards at apex. Grey-Wilson (1985) who stated that the Ceylon specimens exhibit variation in leaf shape and size, however, did not mention any variation in flower. ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The top and bottom left pictures feature at FOI ... http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Marsh%20Balsam.html ... and are identified by the author Jyosna Dessai. And what a place it is...... this lateretic rich plateau has an amazing variety of wild flowers, we could get about 80 species in 2 days...... This is the first image from amongst the several that I could manage ;-) Place: Kass Plateau, Approx. 20 kms north of Satara, Maharashtra. Date: 29th to 31st Aug'08 Equipment: Canon 40 D Camera + Tamron 90 mm macro lens Species: Impatiens oppositifolia Notes: It was an experience to see how this flower showered its pollens on the back of the ant when the ant was busy taking its reward.....you can see the pinkish pollen laced on the back of the ant..... The Kas plateau has very less of butterfly activity....maybe because high winds on the top prevent the butterfly activity here ?? This is Impatiens tomentosa only as per ... images and keys therein.
