Nilgiris: Impatiens for identification 101212MK02: Please help me in identifying this herb found in the wet rocky habitats of upper plateau of Nilgiris. This plant is ubiquitous on the region.
The scape height is about 20 cm long; leaf is about 10 cm across; flower is about 3 cm across.
Date: 25 Oct 2012
Place: Western Catchment, Nilgiris, TN
Alt.: 2410 m asl
Looks like Impatiens acaulis
This balsam is what I have named as Impatiens pseudo-acaulis Bhaskar (2012) [= I. scapiflora var. pseudo-acaulis Bhaskar (1975)] as it is most often identified as I. acaulis due to the two prominent lobes in the wings. The basal lobe (3rd lobe) is small and not visible from a distance.
