Some overlooked few Pangi id's al201011-A: Sometimes in my ignorance I quickly overlook flowers thinking they are the same as the one's id'd before and then I realise they're not... This one looked like Hieracium vulgatum..... and then I realised it was not... Location Pangi, Chamba Altitude 3000 mts Habit herb Habitat wild Height 18 inches I think you were not far away. It is Picris hieracioides, characterised by yellow ligulate heads, with blackih glandular hairs on phyllaries, brownish achenes without beak and most importantly feathery pappus.
I think yes, ... Very good photographs is this the one known as go-jivha? Thanks ... for validation, we had also spotted it during our last year's visit to the same area... ... as far as I know this is not known as "go-jihva", none of its parts resemble with cow's tongue. "Go-jihva" I have come to know is Elephantopus scaber, a plant I have yet to see....experts may comment further, thanks a lot... but Elephantopus scaber is elephants foot, isn't it? But ayurvedic books i currently have list Onosma bracteatum Wall. (Boraginaceae) as Gojvha ,,,, but i distinctly remember trying to id a yellow flower on a branched herb like the one shown in this thread, I had found some old books of indian flora published in uk with handtinted drawings that had this plant and a name go-jivha... i need to see if i can find atleast a xerox copy if saved... colloquial names can be quite confusing...
