Now I got this weed plant. May I have any of your Mikania micrantha pictures uploaded here?
Here it is, our Mikania.
Many thanks for the identification. Mikania micrantha (Asteraceae) is now becoming an invasive of concern; I think it is colonising in the north -eastern and southwestern part of the country. I cannot find your picture ...
Please refer this along with pictures (specimen): http://www.tropicos.org/Name/2701038

Simply superb observation and very valuable ecological information ... All ur posts are very informative.
One thing i forgot to mention that this vine is also used extensively for packing fresh vegetables to retain the freshness (water content) while transporting to city markets.

Spotted this article in todays Times of India
Thanks ... for sharing this article. Thanks to ... for finding this Mikania climber and also reporting it..
Unfortunately this Mikania creeper is already well established in several parts of Maharashtra. In the Neral area it has been profusely spreading for the past ten years, at least. Even after burning during the summer it manages to survive and spread further every monsoon.

Pls help me for correct nomenclature for this species.
Please help us identifying faster by providing the necessary details about the plant and its locality.
... most probably Mikania micrantha Kunth ... widely getting naturalized, of invasive nature.

The year 2014 is going to close down shortly, and this is my concluding post for the year, hopefully there will be no break for me and I will try to share my observations continuously and keep learning..
This plant is a surprise for me, I only heard that this aggressive weed has invaded Western Himalayas coming all the way from NE Himalayas (though a non-native), but never seen this anywhere..
Invading a far off place like Panipat shows the tendency of this spreading herb.. this may become a nuisance very soon..
These are fresh shots recorded today. Please suggest if I should eradicate this from the place, or let it grow..(though I wanted to see this somewhere, and this very kindly came to me)..
Mikania micrantha today (31.12.14) from Panipat, hope the id is right
Thanks for teaching me all through the year and I wish Everyone a Very Happy New Year 2015..
This has spread all the way to Kerala and Karnataka too sir. I've seen it growing very luxuriantly all along the ghat sections.
isn't there a policy in govt. books somewhere or the botanical council or some such body of govt. that  decides these things? or is it still in its infancy or not even organized ? i would really like to know

Mikania scandens and a beautiful pollinator (Tawny Coster?)
What is the difference between Mikania scandens & Mikania micrantha for identification purposes?
The differences between M. scandens and M. micrantha are as follows:  "[T]he inflorescence is habitually looser and more paniculate in M. micrantha than in M. scandens; the inflorescence in M. scandens is mostly crowded with round-topped corymbs
I have to at the plant once again, as it seems more likely to be
micrantha than scandens
Here are two pics. One is Mikania micrantha and the other perhaps scadens. Attachments (2)
Thanks, ... Is there any difference in the leaves?

According to Wiki- leaves are variable in both spcies, however, in
scandens the leaves are more cordate
and in micrantha they are more hastate. I shall look into the plants closely and then let you know more elaborate.

ID please
Dear friends,
Would like to know ID of the dentate-leaved climber, if this sole photo gives any clue to recognize it. Found it commonly, though always at a distance, not affording close-up, or better views.
It looks like Mikania micrantha, a widespread invasive weed.  I hope you didn't see this plant deep inside the forest.

Thanks ...; it does look like, and must be Mikania micrantha !
I found it along the ghat at few places.

First one is Mikania scandens, second one is Perscaria chinensis, both are climbing, Mikania is an exotic weed

I think we have only distribution of Mikania micrantha in the area as per Flora of China and BSI Flora of India.

The inflorescence seems to be of Mikania micrantha, the leaves could be of some other plant.

I am getting confused between M.scandens and M.micrantha. Earlier (24.12.2018) I had posted one image
which was identified as M.scandens by ... To me, both look very similar. I am attaching that image again for the reference. This plant was very common in Wayanad region.

I was not aware that we have Mikania scandens too distributed in India.
I hope somebody familiar with both these species help in identification.

Surely ... We shall wait for someone to throw more light on these species

Pl. check details about species available in India at

Also check keys at

Here you can see also distribution of both species.

I think we have only distribution of Mikania micrantha in the area as per Flora of China and BSI Flora of India.
