I had spotted this Artemisia Shrub (Asteraceae Family) at an altitude of approx. 10500 ft to 11000 ft en route Turtuk from Nubra valley.
This Shrub was around 1 to 1.5 m tall.

Sharing some pictures for ID. Shot at Leh on 20 August 2014 at 11000 ft.
Definitely Artemisia but this is a large and difficult genus identification-wise. In the past I relied upon staff at the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew naming e.g. the pressed specimens we gathered during the University of Southampton Ladakh Expedition in 1980 to the Suru Valley (a duplicate set of specimens was deposited in the herbarium of the University of Kashmir at Srinagar).
Stewart in 'An Annotated Catalogue of the Vascular Plants of Pakistan and Kashmir' (1972) lists 22 species of Artemisia.
The large flower-heads made me initially think of A,macrocephala but the specimen here does not come close to matching what I understand to be this species, flower or foliage-wise.
I have yet to spend much time scrutinising this genus in Ladakh, so would be pleased if anyone can suggest possibilities or knows which species it is, with confidence.
To me it appears close to Artemisia santolinifolia Turcz. ex Besser (Images by Prashant Awale (Id by Miroslav Dvorsky) as per images herein.
Pl. check.
Artemisia santolinifolia is a reasonable suggestion but I cannot say it matches perfectly to my eye but I am not an expert on this difficult genus.
Would have been helpful to have had images of the leaves/foliage, as this seems distinctive in A.santolinifolia.
Perhaps ... can help out again?
