Agave victoriae-reginae T.Moore, Gard. Chron. n.s., 4(2): 485 1875. (Syn: Agave victoriae-reginae f. nickelsii Trel.);
Succulent for ID : Flower Show,Mumbai : 011012 : AK-3: Saw this succulent plant at the Flower Show at Jijamata Udyan in Mumbai last year on 19/2/2011. A very small, cultivated, potted plant. Haworthia species? could be h turgida? but dont quote me !!:) :) Howarthias are difficult at best ... I find... one howarthia I thought was one, turned out to be doubtful and still is ... as miniature aloe of all things... it flowered and is now dying a slow death... this one (yours) is definitely not aloe.. but not sure what / how to classify this succulent, most likely a howarthia.. we need an academic expert on cacti... I also think that it is Hawarthia species.. this is Agave victoriae-reginae ..., you may be quite right... I had thought of it, except there is no spine on the leaf anywhere other than one on the left side... which may be just a dried up end or a true spine/pointed end.... and no backward bending spines along the outer back column... I cant see any of those hooks that are supposed to have been there...they are not so easy to remove unless one wants to kill the plant and not sell it.... so I don t know.. but your choice is better than mine of Howarthia I think.. ANYBODY else have any ideas out there??? Absolutely amazing that you could give a name to my unidentified post. On searching, the id does seem right. Common names are Queen Victoria Agave or Royal Agave. Thank you. I have so many Succulents, Cacti and Ornamentals photographed at the Flower Show in Mumbai last two years. Should try posting few of them. Ornamental Plant For ID : BBC Show,MNP : 210613 : AK-1 : Attachments (1). 3 posts by 2 authors. An ornamental plant seen at the BBC Show in MNP, Mumbai on 30/3/13.
