Tree for ID : Mumbai : 030512 : AK-1: An ornamental, cultivated tree seen at Jijamata Udyan, Mumbai.
A medium height tree, no flowers or fruits seen when picture was taken on the 18th of Nov,12.
From the Pine family?
Araucaria?
Araucaria cookii
The ree look like a norfolk island pine to me... dont know the binomial though,...
This really tricky one to choose from two species ... and ... has suggested.
Sadly no cones are visible in the picture. But, I feel this tree is Araucaria heterophylla (Norfolk Island Pine), quite a common introduced tree in North America and I got a chance to see a bunch of them in my university and this tree surely matches the morphology.
This looked a little different to me than the 'Christmas Tree' we commonly come across, that's the reason I posted it for id.
Thanks for finding the right one.

The trees grow to a height of 50–65 m, with straight vertical trunks and symmetrical branches, even in the face of incessant onshore winds that can contort most other species.
The leaves are awl-shaped, 1-1.5 cm long, about 1 mm thick at the base on young trees, and incurved, 5–10 mm long and variably 2–4 mm broad on older trees. The thickest, scale-like leaves on coning branches are in the upper crown. The cones are squat globose, 10–12 cm long and 12–14 cm diameter, and take about 18 months to mature. They disintegrate at maturity to release the nut-like edible seeds
Thanks for this show. Seeing cones first time.

Araucaria Species?

do you have the whole plant// tree? habit pic?
This should be Araucaria heterophylla.
now we have a diagnosis but it would still be better to have a habit picture
Araucaria heterophylla (Salisb.) Franco. Thank you ...
I think there are two cultivated species in this genus, which are closely related and very difficult to separate.
In China there are three introduced species, Araucaria bidwilii, A. heterophylla and A. cunninghamii and in Hong Kong, there are two species Araucaria heterophylla and A. cunninghamii. They are very different.
