Apiaceae Fortnight 1-14 June 2015: Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides from Uttarakhand DSR_June_1/1 : 2 posts by 1 author. Attachments (2)
Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides Lam (Apiaceae) is a creeping perennial, rooting at nodes.
Flowers are minute and greenish
Photographed in Corbett National Park environ along a river in sandy bed
This species and genus are not represented in eFI
Morphological Taxonomists are a bit behind now! Hydrocotyle is now placed in Araliaceae and have its fair representation in eFI.
I stand corrected.

This small, prostrate herb with glossy leaves was recorded from Pelling in Sikkim..
Please help to conclude the id..
Should this be Hydrocotyle javanica ?
I hope Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides Lam. (syn: H. rotundifolia Roxb.)
note rounded lobes, in H. javanica they are triangular
Thanks Sir for correction ..

Attached herewith the plant found growing and covering the ground surface
Also observed was the white sticky substance [latex] (seen in image)
Photgraphed on 30th April and 15th June 2015
Location: Thane, Maharashtra
Looks like Hydrocotyle sp. (Apiaceae). May be H. verticillata.
Please check in eFI-
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/a---l/ar/araliaceae/hydrocotyle
This is commonly called as Bramhi, a reputed ayurvedic medicine.

efi pages on Centella asiatica (Brahmi) & Hydrocotyle verticillata
This is not Centella asiatica I have neither Hydrocotyle verticillata.
H. conferta Wight is confined to Kerala and TN, hairy and have sessile umbels.
So, it should be one of H. javanica Thunb. and H. sibthorpioides Lam. as per BSI checklist.
Don't know which one of the two.
Yeah Sir, both the plant (H. javanica and H. sibthorpioides) have close resemblance. Will have to wait for experts to reply. Attached recent image dated 25/7/15
recent image? and latex would show clearly if photographed against black paper or non-shiney cloth if its/the plant close by, its doable
I will be visiting the place again soon.. will try to photograph it.
During the recent visit most of the plant growth was disturbed .. Will still do the needful

forgot to tell you if there is latex please be careful
all latex must be considered toxic and markedly irritant
wear goggles (big ones that cover the eye properly) and preferably gloves
carry lactocalamine bottle and water with you
wash profusely from the skin and apply lactocalamiime right away
if it gets in the eye ulcer may develop and .....
go to emergency room of a good hospital and tell them what happened
alll latex must be considered poisonous ...

Sure ... I will be careful..

Thank you Madam. Attached herewith related entries in Flora of British India. Please note the fruit descriptions in both the species are confusing in FBI. So, please check description in FoP and FoC as well.
And please tell us what you think of your species so that we can conclude this thread.
