Yes a colocasia...
in bengali one of the varietie is called  "ol kochu"... , the tubers are eaten as a substitute for potatoe..  cooked the ame way Just plant the tubers when ripe and you get these kind a leaves..
Yes, Alocasia genus belongs to the tribe Colocasieae of Araceae family. I meant to say that this plant would most probably belong to the Genus Colocasia and not belong to the genus Alocasia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alocasia

... had identified it as Colocasia and I think she is correct. The rounded bases (and not hastate as in Alocasia) characterise Colocasia.
 
Please help ID.... Araceae plant in bloom:  Pls help ID this plnt seen growing wild in outskirts of Calcutta. Its sid to be a kind of wild "Kachu' ( Bengali)

This Colocasia like wild plant is common in this area. Could it be any Typhonium sp.?

I will go Colocasia ....Typhonium has different leaf structure.
I think it is a kind of Schismatoglottis
I was doing a google search just a while ago and received the following images of similar looking pods -
Could it be in anyway a Colocasia or Alocasia species as have been suggested by ...?
