Arisaema speciosum

Double-Whip Cobra Lily;

It (Arisaema speciosum var. mirabile) differs from normal speciosum by a rough, rugose appendix whereas normal speciosum has a smooth surface of the appendix. Also the appendix is generally more enlarged and thicker like can be seen on the picture. It grows at higher altitudes and flowers later than normal speciosum.

This is one of the Arisaema species I have recorded from Pelling in Sikkim this May..
Please suggest proper id...
This is Arisaema speciosum (Wall.) Mart. ex Schott, a species common in SIkkim and Darjeeling regions.

Can it be Arisaema speciosum var. mirabile (Schott) Engl. as per images herein ?

The thickened part of the appendix is still smooth so that excludes var. mirabile, this is normal speciosum. The most important difference between both varieties is the appendix surface which is verrucose (rough, like sandpaper) in var. mirabile and smooth in var. speciosum. The appendix can be abruptly thickened in var. speciosum but not always. In var. mirabile it is always thickened.

Yes.. this is Arisaema speciosum (Wall.) Mart. ex Schott

Identification of Arisaema - regarding. : 3 correct images as above. 3 posts by 3 authors.
Let me introduce myself. I am a nature photographer from West Bengal ( India). During my visit to Sikkim and Singalila Forest (mainly through Darjeeling District of West Bengal) I had photographed some different Cobra Lilies (Arisaema) which I failed to identify.
Now, I am sending the photographs for your valuable comments.
............................
Photographs : 2A, 2B & 2C : Photographed in Singalila Forest (near Gurdum). Altitude : About 7500 ft. Blooming time - April. Are they belong to the same species? I am confused whether they are A.speciosum or A.costatum. Please help me.
.................................

................. 1 to 3 appears to be what you have stated as per this book.
Others may like to give their views.
I recentlty joined and saw this old thread. I can give some ID's which could help for future reference if you still need them:
..................
2 A, B & C = Arisaema speciosum, Arisaema costatum has a narrower red-purple striped spathe with a thin appendage and unmarked leaf and flower stalks

Himalayan Cobra Lily, photo taken at Sikkim in Apr-09
looks like Arisaema costatum on the basis of picturs in the book "Flowers of the Himalaya"
This is Arisaema speciosum. Arisaema costatum is a Nepal endemic with unmarked stems and the leaf of costatum is thick with raised veins underneath
