25042012GS1 tree from Nainital for ID: This tree is common, flowering leafless in April in Nainital Ranikhet area.
A few trees along banks of Naini lake, local person gave me its name as Bangar.
Flowers barely 5-7 mm across in panicles, creamish in colour. Please help in ID.

Can this be Boswellia serrata? a common sight there..
Looks like a member of Anacardiaceae.
The bark and flowers indicate towards Lannea coromandelica. Locally Moi in Marathi
I can see 4 yellowish petals, there also seem to be separate male and female flowers. I tend to go with ..., Lannea coromandelica.

Trees of Bangalore - RA - Lannea coromandelica - Indian Ash Tree: Indian Ash Tree is a deciduous tree, growing up to 14 m tall. Branchlets are minutely covered with starry hairs. Alternately arranged leaves are pinnate, with a single terminal leaflet (pinnae) at the end. The spine carrying the leaflets is up to 7 cm long. Leaflets are usually 5, each laterals opposite, ovate, base rounded, densely velvet-hairy when young.
Flowers are unisexual, greenish, the male in compound and female in simple racemes. Sepals 4, about 1 mm long, broad ovate. Petals 4, 2 mm long, oblong, green yellow.
Fruit is ovoid, compressed, in panicles, at the end of leafless branches. Flowering: January-March.
My wait of two months are over. Its in full bloom, after looking at the buds for 2 months.

A common tree in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The leaves are shed when it is hot summer in May! That is why it is not liked by people for planting in avenues. But most useful tree (timber for making catamarans / like floats).

I have seen a beautiful tree at the entrance of Adyar Cancer Hospital.
The flowers are longer and looks beautiful
I haven't seen this tree another place in bangalore, where I have roamed around.

Lannea coromandelica (Moi): Attaching few pics of Lannea coromandelica tree photographed at Barvi
Dam Forest, Badlapur, Maharashtra.
The flower pics were clicked in January and fruit pics in May of 2012.
The captioned tree is found in desiduous forests and is occasionally common.

Nice colours.
I have seen a lot of variation in the flowers of Lannea coromandelica (Moi)
As seen here and also in Vasai I found the red tinge quite strong. Here in Pune I have found both types pure yellow and also mixed yellow and red.
The clusters here are also thick ...flowers close to each other.
Sharing some images clicked from Devbagh Karwar hopefully belonging to Lannea which was growing near Seashores.

ID Confirmation : Lannea coromandalica: Pls confirm if it is Lannea coromandalica, photographed last week at
Barvi, Badlapur, Maharashtra.

Would you please share the picture of leaves, or a branch with leaves, if you have. I think when in flower you may not get leaves. In such cases, if you do not have pictures of leaves with you, you may need to wait. Please check whether the bark is red when you make a cut. Some time when you cut the bark, there would be red exudate that is also a character of Lannea coromandalica.
yes it's Lannea coromandalica
Yes Lannea coromandelica मोई

why do people cut bark... does not that hurt tree? at the least disfigure it... for its life...
I have never understood this... its like a biopsy or something... but biopsy is done to diagnose a tumor or undiagnosable inflammatory condition... never a normal body part ..:) I hope.....

Very nice close up ...
I think you have posted Lannea coromandelica flower instead of its associate.
To me also this appears like Lannea coromandelica rather than Boswellia serrata..
... absolutely right this is Lannea coromandelica. I am extremely sorry now I am posted the same.

Lannea coromandelica : female flowers : A simple raceme bearing the female flowers of Lannea coromandelica [syn. Odina wodier]. The styles are stout and the stamens are reduced to short staminodes as can be seen in the second picture. Clicked today morning on the rocky plateau above Kanheri Caves in Borivali National Park, North Mumbai. This tree grows quite easily from cuttings.
Yes it is.
Nice closeups. The wood is used for catamarans in Tamil Nadu.

Oh Diana Oh Dear! Great ... One interesting find is GRIN doesn't recognise Diana - http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?417527#syn !!!
Nice pix, great efforts and minute details.
Thank you very much Sir, missed the flowers this year.
It is flowering nowadays (30.4.13) in lower hills of Uttarakhand. At the time of flowering trees are leafless.
I have also noticed the deciduous nature of this tree. There were a few of them. The biggest one just has started growing leaves, while the smaller ones already grew new foliage.

would very much appreciate an id
Lannea coromandelica perhaps
Feel that Lannea coromandelica usually has bunches of fruits and here they appear single. Can it be Garuga?
Looks more like Lannea coromandelica with most of fruits already dropped off.
leaves of Garuga pinnata are not like this at all.
I think that ... and ... are right in saying that this may be Lannea coramandelica. It surely cannot be Garuga pinnata as the leaves of G. pinnata are toothed and the fruit is round while the tree in the photographs has ovoid fruits and leaves with smooth margins.

Could you help me with identifying this tree? The tree is about 25' high and looks to be under 5 years old.
I first thought it was Ailanthus excelsa but on closer inspection the leaf shape didn't match
Melia azaderach.. leaf shape does not match.
Gliricidia sepium... leaf shape does not match.
Toona ciliata... bark is very different.
Melia dubia... leaf shape???
Could it be Chukrasia tabularis

Another tree seen near the river bank with buds, no open flowers seen when picture was taken.
? sp. of Lannea

Yes, this seems to match with the only Lannea I know,  i.e. L. coromandelica..

Lannea coromandelica and Garuga pinnata are two possibilities but the leaves have only up to 5 leaflets (both species have many leaflets). Additionally, L.coromandelica develops shining green fruits which is not visible here.
It looks like Lannea coromandelica with many red insect galls. These are not the normal fruit of the tree.
Agree with ... These are fruit galls [also quite common in Pongamia pinnata]. My photographs of the fruit for comparison are available at this link :

Thanks for identifying this tree and the additional information.

Could this be the same tree, Garuga pinnata?
Different Parakeets seem to be enjoying the fruits.

Could you please identify this fragrant flower. Location: Girawali, Ghodegao.
Lannea coromandelica  family : Anacardiaceae
Lannea coromandelica
मोई
new to me
I was wonder when would someone tell what this was
thanks both ...
...Pictures show only fruits.
so the fruits are fragrant? or some thing else in the neighborhood was scented
what month was this in, ...???
is it possible for you to do follow up
I think some of them are galls (in the second picture).
so we need better pictures of both the far off flowers and closer "fruit" or the "Galls"
so we really do not exactly what this is
do we?
We do know ...; Lannea coromandelica
just from that two or three bunches of "Flowers" in the distance?
Those are fruits, ... A very familiar sight.
how can you even id some objects that i cant even make out if its flower or fruit
amazing
so local knowledge is essential... it must over ride objects visibility
that would be like poker or game of chance

Wish to get this tree identified.  The tree has pinnate leaves, is imparipinnate, acuminate, subsessile, and glabrous. Is this Chukrasia tabularis

Garuga pinnata
Burseraceae

Don't think so, the leaf margins are entire!

Ok, sir, we will be a wait but check it once Chukrasia tabularis

Pl. check with images at Lannea coromandelica

To me appears close at first glance.

Thank you, Sir.  It is Lannea coromandelica.  New images of a different bigger tree in the same locality with fruits attached.

I think it's Chukrasia tabularis. Pls note the oblique base of the leaflets and lenticels on bark. May be corrected if I am wrong.
Different from images at Chukrasia tabularis

Requesting to please ID this small tree. This was growing, most probably wild, in Mumbai.
The pics were captured in Apr 2019. No flowers or fruits seen.
Requested to please provide ID.

Seems to Stereospermum sp.
Bignoniaceae
