Sharing some photographs of the flowers, leaves, and the bark of the mid-sized tree Buchanania cochinchinensis. Photographed on Madh Hill (North Mumbai) in February 2015. This particular tree had been felled when I was there in March. Second photograph is simply superb.. Excellent clarity.. Yes very good pictures. Anacardiaceae We have yet to come up with Anacardiaceae fortnight. TSP-JAN2016-26-26:Images of Buchanania cochinchinensis (Anacardiaceae) : 1 post by 1 author. It is my pleasure to share few images of Buchanania cochinchinensis (Anacardiaceae) Ref: http://florakarnataka.ces.iisc.ernet.in/hjcb2/herbsheet.php?id=277&cat=1 Habit: Tree Habitat: Wild, Dry deciduous forest Sighting: Chikmagalur and Tumkur, Karnataka, about 1000 msl and 800 msl respectively Date: 29-07-2014 and 03-03-2015 Buchanania lanzen Pune SMP MAY2016/1 : 9 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (7) Sharing images of an Anacardiaceae member observed in Pune. Buchanania lanzen (Charoli) चारोळी The close-up of the flowers in your first photograph is very intriguing. I'm acquainted with this tree in Mumbai (Borivali National Park, Madh etc.). The flowers that I've observed have all had 10 stamens and these are shorter than the petals. Had posted the same last year in an earlier thread. My observations have been consistent with the description in Cooke's Flora (vol. 1): "Stamens 10, a little shorter than the petals...". In your photograph, the flowers have 5 stamens that are markedly longer than the petals. Would appreciate any inputs/clarity on this. I suppose the current name of this tree is Buchanania cochinchinensis (Lour.) M.R.Almeida. Many thanks for sharing your Anacardiaceae collection. Could this be Semecarpus anacardium? I'm surprised to see Buchanania in such a dry looking locality. The last 2 images can't be from the same tree! Anyway liked the last two pictures very much. spikes my curiosity as to what is it anyway? and are the pictures somehow mixed up There is an apparent mix-up of images. The first one corresponds to the male flowers of Semecarpus anacardium and the second image seems to be of the same. The habit photo is not very clear but the others appear to be that of Buchanania cochinchinensis. You are correct. First two photos are Semecarpus anacardium and are from a different set. I am extremely sorry for the mix up. As rightly said the stamens of Buchanania are 8-10 free inserted at the base of disk while those in Semecarpus are 5-6 as per Cooke 23102017BHAR1 - Light Yellow fruits : 6 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (1) Found in Mannur Forest near Sriperumbudur, Chennai Looks like Buchanania sp. This is Buchanania lanzen of Anacardiaceae Please help in identification of this. Its a local fruit consumed in Jharkhand. Local name-Piyar Date-18th May, 2018 Place-Village chewo, Godda, Jharkhand May be. Pl. check at the black fruit is most likely Buchanania lanzan. fruit is sweet. inside is the prized nut called charoli
This tree was seen in Aarey forest in Mumbai. Pics were taken in Dec 2015. The name given was Madhuca longifolia. Is it var. longifolia. The last pic of the fruits (Madhuca_Aarey6) is taken at a location some 200 mts from the earlier tree. Please ID. May be. If it is Madhuca, it is more likely to be Madhuca longifolia var. latifolia It's very close to Semicarpus anacardium, It seems to be Semecarpus sp. maybe even cashew, The leaf base was bothering me, it is more likely to be Buchanania! I agree with ... For me also it looks like Buchanania may be sp. barberi The local sp. is B. cochinchinensis. It is found in Mumbai area, fairly common References: |
