They are so small, you have taken pains to get it. - Thanks its all due to Nikon D90 with Nikkor 60mm Micro lenses and you know what these flowers are so fragrant makes environment fragrant - Seeing the fruits of Kaju I remembered my stay at Jagdalpur (Bastar). When I was posted there in my bungalow were growing 3 bit trees of Kaju full laden with fruits and I enjoyed eating the sweet ones. - it is fun eating kaju .. Fleshy peduncle...we call it Bondu with salt :) - At my houses in Bombay & Goa. Sans comments. - The only time I tried it, I found it too harsh for me. Should try it again with advice from experts some time. - Hahahah...uncle went to Canada.. got settled there but ask for kaju feni from Goa India every time when someone comes so i thought ..i should try it once ;P ..just kidding - When you are next in Bombay be my guest. Meanwhile, you could try a large with a bottle of Limca. The only problem is.....should you get addicted I ain't responsible.

CASHEW NUT: I came across a Cashew nut tree at this place today. Scientifically this tree is known as Anacardium occidentale. According to Chakravarti S Venkatesh the species was introduced in India from its native South America in 16th century by the colonial Portuguese. Brightly coloured part is not the fruit (this is known as Cashew apple and is used in wine industries). You will see the kidny shaped small fruit at the tip of the apple. It is now widely grown in tropical climates for its cashew "nuts" (and cashew apples. It is a small evergreen tree growing to 10-12 m tall, with a short, often irregularly-shaped trunk. The leaves are spirally arranged, leathery textured, elliptic to obovate, 4 to 22 cm long and 2 to 15 cm broad, with a smooth margin. The flowers are produced in a panicle or corymb up to 26 cm long, each flower small, pale green at first then turning reddish, with five slender, acute petals 7 to 15 mm long. What appears to be the fruit of the cashew tree is an oval or pear-shaped accessory fruit or false fruit that develops from the receptacle of the cashew flower. The true fruit of the cashew tree is a kidney or boxing-glove shaped drupe that grows at the end of the pseudofruit. Actually, the drupe develops first on the tree, and then the peduncle expands into the pseudofruit. Within the true fruit is a single seed, the cashew nut. Although a nut in the culinary sense, in the botanical sense the fruit of the cashew is a seed. However, the true fruit is classified as a nut by some botanists. The seed is surrounded by a double shell containing a caustic phenolic resin, urushiol, a potent skin irritant toxin also found in the related poison ivy. In Madh, it is one of the more populous trees and would have been a significant plantation crop at some point of time.
