Its a Common plant among the areca garden of Sirsi.. The fruits get dispersed chiefly by the animals including humans.. and a nuisance in weeding the garden. In this way, I may call this as a plant of beauty and beast ! :) ... had provided me the ID of Pupalia atropurpurea for this herb. While compiling common names for the ID, got surprised to find that the species is now considered synonym of P. lappacea, a large perennial scrambler undershrub. Both species are described in Cooke's Flora of the Presidency of Bombay. Photography technique is superb Very good find. Cooke Flora gives a better description. Please validate with comments. This is Cyathula prostrata only. If you can zoom in or have any other pictures, one can check for staminodes in between the stamens to confirm the genus Cyathula rather than Pupalia. This is Cyathula prostrata not Pupalia lappacea I understood that you are very much sure about the species I was just trying to fit the key characters given in the books to the pictures as a part of study. I am not aware of both the species in the field. Hope my beliefs about the Keys are true. My earlier sentence might have created confusion. I was trying to find the staminodes as a part of using the differentiating key. Many thanks ... for the ID. I am sure you are familiar with both plants - any straight (glaring) difference ? Me too would think of this plant being some species of Cyathula, and just as ... thought, most probably C. prostrata. Not sure because - not seen yet any species of Pupalia.I am yet to see any Cyathula and one of the synonyms of Cyathula prostrata, given in the F. B. I., is Pupalia prostrata Mart.! I think :-
Thanks ... for further elaborating the aspects of Cyathula and Pupalia.
