Found this as a garden plant at the Kodagu Valley Resort.
Also found along roadsides as an escape.
Based on the ornamental dots on the leaves, looks like some species of non-native species of Peristrophe / Dicliptera ... ID please
May be mistaking it to be non-native.

Yes I think you are correct ... This is ineed Hypoestes phyllostachya

yes, ...  aslo called polka dot plant.. yours is the white variety.. usually more common is the pink and green leaf...
makes a nice potted plant indoors in winters in the western hemisphere...
BUT IN TROPICS>>>>
one has to be very careful with how you dispose of the houseplant
..
there are reports from Australia, Hawaii etc where these are considered NOXIOUS weeds... toxic to cats and cattle, /// AND
CROWDING out native shrubs...
somebody mentioned that it is reported as weed in INDIA too, but I cant find a reference ...
... on google there are 47,100 results when I searched just now for "
Hypoestes phyllostachya a weed in india".. could not go thru ALL THAT!!
**I remember in the 1990s the decade... we had a profusion of these, cuttings root very fast in a day or two in summer... at NYBG family garden we could not give it away FREE .as a starter plant ... in the beginning children loved the pink colored leaves... soon parents (in a couple of years) would say no, thanks... .. go figure !!!
SO NOT EVERYTHING THAT"S BEAUTIFUL TO THE EYES IS DESIRABLE IN THE GARDEN...**
BUT ...>> IT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE BEAUTY OF YOUR PLANT>>> just dont root more cuttings than you need for your own use... and dont throw away plants in garbage heap.. only throw them in compost
...

purple flower

Yes it is, put it in shade and it will become more spectacularly purple green foliage
its a south african shade loving plant used often in its native place as ground cover under trees... does well as a tabletop houseplant looks lovely in the inside warm rooms in winters...
be careful about throwing them out in the garbage heaps... has a very bad potential to be a quite obnoxious weed ... esp in western ghat or any tropical moist land....

A common weed found everywhere in the area. I have earlier also seen this along road sides in Chikamagalur and Coorg
polka dot plant
descriptions and flowers you have are what I remember... but the dots on your leaves are much less than what you'll find on googling... a weed from madagaskar .. i want to say ... Hypoestes phyllostachya
popular houseplant in the west and a weed in australia
we do see them in nurseries here in monsoon when its hot and humid.. here in NE india.
This plant is Hypoestes sanguinolenta
Introduced as garden plant, now seen along the roadsides as an escape
The plant uploaded seems to be Hypoestes phyllostachys

Hypoestes phyllostachya from Mizoram.

Hypoestes phyllostachya Baker
at Coorg on March 30, 2011
nice
never seen flowers of this
very popular houseplant esp in snowy regions brings color to the roomwhen all is dreary out there
African plant .. so was this in the wild ie naturalised?
or was it at a garden // nursery
Thanks ... This plant was at a landscaped resort, cottages built according to natural contours, and the wilderness let remain intact. The resort management have smartly planted some of the ornamentals as well as native plants amongst the other wild growing.
