Location: Osho Tapovan, Nepal Date: 18 July 2015 Altitude: 1500 m. Habitat : Wild Lycoperdon ? Scleroderma citrinum Pers. ?? Scleroderma sp. I will not say about species as many species look morphological much similar and can be distinguished only after studying spores, gleba and microscopic analysis... ... here's the key to distinguish between these two similar looking genera - Earthballs (Scleroderma sp.) look like Puffballs (Lycoperdon sp.) from the outside but have a thicker peridium and the internal gleba soon turns purplish black. In Scleroderma the outer skin breaks open to release the spores, whereas in Lycoperdon the spores escape through a designated hole. So, I am saying this Scleroderma sp. as in images we can see that skin is cracking.... |
