Distribution: Bhutan, India, Kashmir, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand (Flora of China)

This fern has a propensity to curl as it ages. Found at the base of trees here, its silvery white side stands out against damp earth/bark.

It's Aleuritopteris formosana - it curls up when the dry season comes.
Ah yes, I should add - Aleuritopteris species were all called Cheilanthes previously, but since the big and diverse genus Cheilanthes has been revised since the 1970s and today, Aleuritopteris has generally been upheld
Thanks a lot ... for providing correct name for the fern, this is very common and our B.Sc. students often collect this as one of their Herbarium specimens..

These fresh Aleuritopteris (formerly Cheilanthus) are emerging now and would curl up to show their whites underneath in October after the monsoons. Here are a couple of photos from the day before.

This is the other Aleuritopteris here with pinnae more finely divided. Here is s reply from Dr Fraser-Jenkins.  
"Yes, it's formosana all right, fairly typical, wrinkled top surface, lamina not widest at the base, scales go up stipe and onto rachis"
