Tree Fern at Munnar- PKA56 : 4 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (5)
This Tree Fern was seen near a stream at Shola Forest near Munnar.
This Tree Fern was approx 2 to 3 m in ht.
Looks like Cyathea sp.. Could this be Cyathea nilgirensis??
Family: CYATHEACEAE
I'm sorry to say, but tree-ferns are not identifiable from general photos like that. One has to see the details of the hairs or scales underneath the segment-midribs, close-up. It may be C. nilgirensis, but could be others as well - but anyway, in Section Alsophila.
I often find because people posting photos do not consult the important literature, they do not know what one needs to show for identification. - so like this end up with an unidentifiable photo.
