It was a pretty day, but with the clocks changing over the weekend, it was dark before gametime. With the darkness came cold and misty conditions. Both teams had quality players, and they played a game of breaks.
Mystery wore white instead of their usual dark green to contrast better with Black Pearl's jerseys. Mystery received the pull and Black Pearl's zone forced a turn that they converted into a break to start the scoring. After some back and forth, Mystery went on a three point run, but it was still close. The game was tied at 7-7 before Black Pearl scored another break to take half.
Down by one, Mystery pulled to Black Pearl to start the second, and scored three breaks in a row to turn their 7-8 deficit into a 10-8 lead. Black Pearl fought back. Ultimately the game was tied at 14-14. The commish asked the teams if they wanted U-point or game to 16 hard cap. Both teams immediately responded U-point.
Mystery received the pull, and had the chance to win the game with a hold, but there were multiple turns and both teams had the opportunity to score. Walt nearly caught the championship point, but Tom Santiago grabbed the disc in the end zone. Strip was called, and the disc went back. The second attempt at the same throw was a turn, and Black Pearl converted the final score of the game on a break 15-14 Black Pearl.
With the win, Black Pearl has won three playoff games in a row after losing their first playoff game to Purple Kraken. The loss left Mystery tied with Pearl in the loss column, so the two teams will face off again on Thursday at 6:30 to decide the Fall 2021 Championship.
With the weather getting colder, and the daylight in short supply, it is probably better to come early to throw or play a little pickup BEFORE Thursday's championship game instead of afterwards - post on the Facebook group if you're interested.
