Emily A. Beam

I am an associate professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Vermont and a research fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA). I previously worked as a visiting assistant professor at the National University of Singapore. I received a Ph.D. in economics and public policy from the University of Michigan in 2013 and a B.S. in economics, mathematics, and Spanish from the University of Michigan in 2006.

My research interests center on education and employment policy, with a particular focus on strengthening learning and facilitating school-to-work transitions among low-income youth. I also study other aspects of individual decision-making that have long-term impacts on poverty and earnings trajectories, such as fertility, marriage, and healthcare decisions.
