Dr. Rui Ma has joined Merced County Association of Governments as a Senior Planner in October 2023. 

Dr. Ma was an Assistant Professor in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is also appointed as a Graduate Faculty Member in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering in the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Ma was a Lecturer and Postdoc Scholar in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis.

Dr. Ma's research interests are Dynamic Traffic Network Modeling, Ridesharing, New Mobility, Network Resilience and Sustainability and Smart City.

He received his PhD degree in Civil Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 2013.  His PhD advisor was Dr. Xuegang (Jeff) Ban. He received his Bachelor's degree in Automation with the focus on the Intelligent Transportation Systems at Tsinghua University in 2009.

October 2023

Dr. Ma has joined Merced County Association of Governments as a Senior Planner in October 2023. 


November 2021

Dr. Ma receives funding support from the College of Engineering in UAH on 2021 Undergraduate Research Program (URP).

January 2020

Dr. Ma's research project "Leveraging Shared Rides to Relieve Commuting Traffic Congestion by Applying a Guidance Strategy to the Ridesharing Travelers" is awarded by UAH New Faculty Award (8 awarded of 19  proposals).
