Outdoor art is an instrument for public enrichment and is an important part of any vibrant community. The Toms River Business Development Corporation has a vision and mission to improve our downtown.

Last year we completed our first commissioned piece through the Community Mural Art Project. More than 400 people of all ages not only participated in the design of the mural, they actually painted it. This permanent mural now greets visitors at the western entrance to Downtown and is displayed of the wall of Simply Skin, 313 W. Water Street.

The benefits are not limited to the viewing and enjoyment of the delightful sculptures. Other activities will be planned to further enhance this exhibition – photo contests as well as art and video projects for the schools, art community and general public are a natural extensions to further extend the benefits of the exhibit. Other towns and cities that have hosted these sculptures include Sarasota, FL, Albany, NY, Key West, FL as well as Rome, Italy, Monte Carlo, Monaco, and Berlin, Germany.

This wonderful exhibit featuring sculptures by J. Seward Johnson is presented by the Toms River Business Corporation with statues on loan from The Seward Johnson Atelier, Inc. . A special thanks to our Sponsors and Patrons who have fully funded this exhibit with their generous donations for the benefit of the community of Toms River.  Also our thanks to the Township of Toms River, Ocean County Vocational Technical School, Ocean County Library & the Ocean County Master Gardeners  for their support in making this exhibit possible.

This extraordinary collection of J. Seward Johnson’s works, with its whimsical and realistic life-sized characters, will grace our streets throughout the summer.  Sculptures were chosen from the Johnson series “Celebrating the Familiar”.

Last but not least thank you to the countless volunteers who made  this project not only possible, but a reality.
