     Adam Rutkowski was born on the 17th of March, 1945 in Milanowek, a small village just outside of Warsaw, two months before World War 2 ended. In November 1958, halfway through the final year 7 of primary the family immigrated to Australia arriving in Sydney on the 21st of December, 1958. 
    After spending his first high school year at Bondi Junior Technical School, Adam transferred to Vaucluse Boys High School. He graduated from high school in 1963 and enrolled at Sydney University in the Faculty of Engineering. After the first two years he transferred to the Science Faculty, received a Bachelors degree in Science (majoring in Mathematics) and the following year returned to Engineering graduating in 1968 as an Electrical Engineer.
    In his final year Adam met his future wife, Susan Rettie who was studying medicine and they were married at the end of 1969. Their daughter Ann was born in 1975 followed by a son Paul in 1978.
    Although Adam had a degree in Electrical Engineering, he never worked in his profession. In 1969 he became a programmer with AMP Society, a large insurance company and subsequently moved to Computer Sciences of Australia (CSA) until joining his university friends in a startup company - Consulting and Programming Services (CPS), specialising in the development of commercial and accounting software. In 1990 he was employed by Oracle Systems, a large US based computer company, working mainly in their Education Division until his retirement at the end of 2000. In 2008 Sue retired from her position as a specialist in the Royal North Shore Hospital spinal unit and set up a medico-legal practice and Adam took on the job of managing the practice.
