THE MAESTROS

Sofia Saborido (Buenos Aires) is a delicate and intense dancer, a gem of the new generation of dancers. With great quality of movement and musical richness, she builds dance from a refined and sensitive connection. Highly appreciated for her teaching, she has taught throughout Europe since 2006 during courses, seminars and tango festivals.

A Tango dancer and teacher with a broad background in theater, classical, modern and jazz dance, she is the Great-granddaughter of Enrique Saborido (dancer, musician and composer of very famous tangos such as La Morocha and Felicia among others), Sofia discovered tango at the age of 10. At 12, she joined the young tango ballet “La Plata”. In 2000 she participated as a dancer in the dinner show “La Cumparsita” and on Sundays in the Plaza Dorrego show in Buenos Aires. In 2006 she won fourth place at the tango championships in Buenos Aires. Between 2009 and 2010 she participated as a dancer in the French show “Tango Argentique” presented at the Avignon theater festival. Since 2006 she has developed an intense teaching activity in Europe, being invited to teach in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Greece, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Marcelo 'El Chino' Gutierrez is a world renowned tango master and performer. Marcelo won 2nd place in the 2002 Tango SalonChampionships in Buenos Aires. For the past 20 years he has worked on developing and perfecting the teaching system for which he is most known and respected; a method focusing on stability, groundedness, comfort, natural body movement, core leading and following. The stunning results of his learner focused teaching style make him one of the most sought after Argentine Tango Maestros in the world.

Known as a teacher of teachers Marcelo is one of that unique and lucky generation of professional tango dancers that “came of age” in an era where tango came to a crossroads and renewed itself in the 2000’s. He benefited both from being able to study with such old-school masters as the Dinzels, Nito and Elba, the Rivarolas, Teresa Fernández (Todaro system) and Victor Arne; and from being part of the tango revolution that started with Gustavo Naveira and came to be known as Tango Nuevo.
