WE WELCOME REPUBLICANS AND UNENROLLED VOTERS REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY LIVE.

Meet Chelsea Woodruff

Candidate for Senate District 1

 THE PROPER ROLE OF GOVERNMENT

The role of government is solely to protect our God-given rights as citizens. It is not the role of government to eliminate consequences for neither idleness nor risky behaviors. The government should be limited in scope and where possible, downsized using technology to increase accountability and efficiency.

RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES

I fully support the Constitution as it was written, with limited powers delegated to the Federal Government. Similarly, I believe that decisions are best made as close to the constituents as possible. The State Legislature should refrain from passing mandates on education that limit the choices of parents, school districts, and the State School Board. I believe that the School Board should remain separate from the Governor’s Office. Educational Standards should be determined with the students’ best learning at heart and locally, not an imaginary Federal Standard with no basis in local realities. Elimination of burdensome regulation should be a priority.

NATIONAL SECURITY AND PUBLIC PROTECTION

I believe that we need to secure our borders and eliminate rewards for those who enter the country illegally or remain past the validity of their visas. In order to accomplish these goals, we need to find solutions that work smarter, not harder and certainly not with so much money, that it bankrupts us. I support private solutions to aid in the removal of illegal immigrants and innovation in methods to seal our borders. I support innovative methods to encourage illegal immigrants to return to their countries of origin and penalties when applying for re-entry.

HUMAN SERVICES

I believe that it is the duty of private citizens, churches, and non-profit organizations to provide for the welfare of the impoverished, disabled, and unemployed. Government involvement in entitlement programs imprisons and encourages permanent dependence. Private organizations that create aid on a local level are much more likely to meet the needs of these populations while treating them with dignity and respect. The government is much more likely to discourage innovative solutions with their one-size-fits-none programs. Human Services programs need to increase accountability, responsibility, and encourage the independence of the individual.

EDUCATION

I am working on my Master of Secondary Education degree in Spanish as a Second Language and English as a Second Language. As such, I have a unique insight into the failings of the education system as it is currently designed. I support deregulation of Education. I support creating a partnership amongst public, private, and home school options that encourages improved performance, individualization, and smaller class sizes without increasing government fiscal responsibility. I support changing the system from a standardized, age-based system which creates significant inequality between students of the same age to a system that rewards students for success by allowing them to excel in their strong areas and receive an education with students on their same level in areas that need to improve.
