Young Athletes
Junior Awards Night - 14th November 2014
Essex County Championships (Track Relays)
If Harriers youngsters were looking for inspiration in their quest for relay medals at this year’s Day three of the Essex County Athletics Association Track and Field Championships, held in Southend, then their formidable U17 men’s sprint team certainly provided it. In the 4 x 100m relay final, the team
made up of Joe Wilkin, Callum Pettit-Coombes, Cassius Cracknell and Connor
Oliver provided a thrilling battle for top spot finally having to settle for
silver position in a photo finish and a time of 45.4s. Knocking a huge 1.1s off
their previous record set earlier this season.
Success came sweeter still when later, Cassius, Callum and Connor were joined by newcomer Zak Johnson as they stormed to victory and were crowned Essex 4 x 400m champions in a time of 3:36.3s snatching a new club record along with their gold medals. A fabulous finale for these boys who next year move up to U20 men. Silver medals were presented to
Harriers U15 men 4 x 300m team of Rocha Fosker, Charlie Dobson, Bradley Everitt
and Robert Harvey setting a new club record of 2:50.8s. For Robert this was his
second medal of the day, teaming up with Jack Shephard and Charlie Everest to
form a strong U15 mens 3 x 800m team who claimed a well-deserved bronze place
in a time of 7:16.2s. The talented U15 mens 4 x 100m team (Callum McKay,
Charlie Dobson, James Hoddell and Julie’s Uwimana) were robbed of a bronze
medal in a photo finish to be given 4th place in a new club record
time of 48.3s.
Newcomers Kira and Louise Barrett
teamed up with Millie Belbin and Rebecca Jeggo (in her first track event
following injury) in the U15 womens 4 x 100m team to qualify through to their
final. In the unique 3 x 300m relay
Milllie and Rebecca were joined by Megan Potter to create a new club record of
2:24.6s each making their debut as 300m runners.
U13 girls 4 x 100m team of Megan
Stevens, Lauren Strutt, Ellie Hopgood and Kira Wealls ran well against strong
competition to qualify through to their final where they finished fourth with a
seasons best of 55.6s; in the same age category Ellie Lewis, Katie Rice and
Jasmine Marley formed the 3 x 800m team to end their season each with new personal
best lap times to take them into their winter training.
Harriers U13 boys (Josh Lord, Finlay
Macbrayne, James Setford and Daniel Jones)
took on the might of the bigger clubs to run a clean 4 x 100m in 58.9s;
Daniel (a talent to watch out for as he moves up into U15 next year) then joined
Ziggy Lambton and James Setford in the 3 x 800m finishing a respectable 5th.
As well as the relays, Day 3 of the Championship saw Dominic and Daniel King contending for the gruelling 10k walk. Dominic being crowned Essex Champion in a time of 44:29.0s ahead of Daniel in second place in a time of 47:01.6s. Colin Ridley took bronze medal and a Personal Best in men’s 10000m in a time of 35:19.8 |
Eastern Young Athletes League
Team finishes on a high Once again the club put in another great performance at the final EYAL fixture at Peterborough, scoring over 500 points for the third fixture in a row and finishing 2nd (our highest position). The Harriers were only beaten by Norwich who are one of the top teams in the league, while the club beat 2 teams competing for the final places at the plate final (places 7 to 12). This was a fantastic effort for the club and has shown that the hard work of the athletes, parents, team managers and coaches has been worth it The result did no improve our overall league position but did cement us into the top half of the table. If the club can build on this year's success we can look at competing for a place at the plat finals next season. Final result

23rd February - 53-12 XC Hadleigh
Cross Country - Harriers win 53-12 junior league A big well done to all those juniors that ran in the 53-12 league this year, and helped the team to win the league. The Harriers won five out of the six races and came a close second in the other. The encouraging thing was that there were a lot of new faces turning out in green vests this year with over 20 turning out in the last race alone and over 30 different runners over the course of the season |
