September 21, 2016 Milwaukee Intermodal Station Passenger Train Concourse Reconstruction Project

For our September event the CMAA Wisconsin Chapter hosted a presentation and tour of the Milwaukee Intermodal Station Passenger Train Concourse Reconstruction Project. The project involves the removal of the existing train passenger concourse, located immediately south of the Intermodal Station, and construction of a new structure. The new facility will meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

May 10, 2016 Epic Tour

Presented By: Mike LaRue, Prefabrication Manager of JP Cullen

For our May event the CMAA Wisconsin Chapter hosted a presentation on prefab construction and toured part of the Epic facility in Verona, WI. Mike LaRue, Prefabrication Manager of JP Cullen, presented on how they were able to construct three multistory office buildings in just 10 months using prefabrication techniques.

April 20, 2016 Carroll College Science Building Tour

Presented By: Ron Lostetter - VP of Finance and Administrative Services for Carroll University, John Gilroy - Project Executive Gilbane Building Company, and Laura Hause - Project Manager Gilbane Building Company

The CMAA Wisconsin Chapter, for our April event, toured the new Carroll College Science building being constructed by Gilbane.The new 42,000 sf facility, which will be occupied in the fall of 2016, is a $24 million project to add classrooms, state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, and research spaces. When completed, the building will be a blend of modern technology with Carroll's historic architecture

March 30, 2016 Construction Management at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center

The CMAA Wisconsin Chapter March event was hosted at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. This event, presented by Mark Mobley, highlighted the VA's construction management practices as utilized by a project manager and Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the federal government agency, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The event included a tour of two current projects on the VA Campus, the East parking structure and South entrance, and a presentation by the CM, Mark Mobley, and contractor for the parking structure.

February 25, 2016 Ethics and Professional Conduct

The CMAA Wisconsin Chapter February event was hosted at von Briesen & Roper in downtown Milwaukee. This event, put on by our presenter from von Briesen & Roper, covered the topics of Professional Conduct, Ethics, and Risk Management. This was a two hour event and was the opportunity for licensed professionals to earn two PDH hours in the area of Professional Conduct and Ethics.

December 17, 2015 CMAA Wisconsin Holiday Party

For the CMAA Wisconsin December event the Board of Directors hosted in annual holiday member appreciation party. The event was held at Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. Over 50 construction professionals attended the event for a chance to network with other CMAA members.

November 24, 2015 3D Modeling and UAV Surveying

Presented By: Jonathan Chapman and Shane Zodrow PLS, P.E. of RA Smith National

For our November event, CMAA Wisconsin hosted a lunch and learn presentation on 3D Modeling and UAV Surveying at the R.A. Smith National office in Brookfield, WI. This lunch and learn presentation by R.A. Smith's surveying team will covered how R.A. Smith is utilizing 3D Laser Scanning and Modeling and also incorporating UAV's as a new survey tool. They are one of a few companies at this point, not only in Wisconsin but also nationwide, that have been granted an exemption from the FAA to implement UAV's.

October 7, 2015 833 East Michigan Tour

For our October meeting CMAA Wisconsin visited the construction site of Milwaukee's new 833 East Michigan office building lead by Irgens. Located at 833 East Michigan Street in the hub of downtown Milwaukee's commercial business district, 833 East is the city's newest environmentally sustainable, high-visibility Class A multi-tenant office building. 833 East offers a stunning combination of elegant design, state-of-art technology and premium tenant amenities, making it the premier new office development in downtown Milwaukee. The tour group met at Catch 22, in downtown Milwaukee for a networking event and social hour after the tour.

September 30, 2015 Northwestern Mutual Headquarters Tour

Four our September meeting CMAA Wisconsin toured the project site of Northwestern Mutual's new downtown headquarters. Gilbane Building Company is providing general contracting services for Northwestern Mutual’s new corporate headquarters. This project is being constructed in downtown Milwaukee along the lakefront and will allow Northwestern Mutual to better serve the expanding needs of its more than four million policy owners and clients. The Tower and Commons project will preserve 1,100 downtown jobs while creating 1,900 new jobs at the company’s downtown Milwaukee campus. The 32-story tower (approximately 550 feet tall) will adjoin the two-block-long, three story space known as the Commons. A social hour was held after the event at Mi-Key's right on Milwaukee's Cathedral Square for group members to network.

June 18, 2015 Milwaukee Art Museum Renovation Tour

Presented By: Brady Roberts, Chief Curator Milwaukee Art Museum

Four our June meeting CMAA Wisconsin took a tour of the ongoing Milwaukee Art Museum Renovation led by Brady Roberts, Chief Curator at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The tour encompassed the work that is being performed under the museum’s current $25 million capital campaign. This included updating gallery space and building additions to the existing buildings. After the meeting the group met at the Coast-A Zilli for networking opportunities.

For a second April CMAA meeting we met with Chris Deiss, Superintendent for Oudenhoven Construction Company at Lambeau Field. The tour entailed the mulit-level Packer's Hall of Fame project, which included the install of an escalator, terrazzo stairs, and misccellaneous other items: building out locker rooms for scouts, pools, hot tubs, and a taping area for the Packers players.

May 28, 2015 Engineers Without Borders Program

Presented By: Elyse O'Callaghan, EWB-USA

For CMAA Wisconsin's May meeting we welcomed Elyse O'Callaghan of EWB-USA in to talk about Engineers Without Borders ongoing projects. Elyse serves as a long-term volunteer in Joyabaj, Guatemala to complete long-term projects to improve EWB-USA projects within the area. During her time, she worked on monitoring and evaluation of the urban, municipal water system, performed a municipal infrastructure analysis to identify existing infrastructure and needs, and managed construction mobilization and implementation for her senior design team's 45-ft span concrete T-beam vehicle bridge. She will be presented on her work and experience as a whole with an emphasis on construction practices on an EWB-USA project in Guatemala.

April 22, 2015 Epic Tour

Presented By: Erika Cleaver, JP Cullen

For our April CMAA Wisconsin meeting we met with Erika Cleaver, the Project Manager for Miscellaneous Projects at Epic. She led us on a tour of the Epic Facility in Verona, WI. The tour started with a presentation on construction of the Epic campus since 2005 and highlighted several of the buildings and key design features. After the tour the group met at Gray's Tied House in Verona, WI for a networking event.

March 18, 2015 CCM and CMIT Certification Discussion

Presented By: AJ Catalonotte of CH2M Hill and Rich Cass of Fox Valley Technical College

The CMAA Wisconsin Chapter hosted a presentation and open discussion on the Construction Manager in Training (CMIT) and Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential. A number of the Wisconsin Chapter members have accomplished certification at the CMIT and CCM level and shared advice on navigating the application process and preparing for the exam to help others take their Construction Management career to the next level.

February 26, 2015 Tour of Froedtert Medical Facility

The Wisconsin Chapter of CMAA February meeting and networking event was held at the Froedtert Medical Center in Wauwatosa. We toured the current construction site of the Froedtert Center for Advanced Care by Mortenson which was followed by a social hour at Mo's Irish Pub. Tour and presentation was lead by Tony Erickson, Project Manager for Mortenson Construction.

January 21, 2015 Tour of Milwaukee City Hall

Presented By: Ghassan Korban and Paul Fredrich, City of Milwaukee

The Wisconsin Chapter of CMAA January meeting and networking event was held in downtown Milwaukee. A presentation was given about the Milwaukee City Hall ongoing foundation improvements. There was a tour of the recently renovated Milwaukee City Hall building and a social hour followed at Water Street Brewery.

Presentation and tour were given by Ghassan Korban, City of Milwaukee Commissioner of Public Works, and Paul Fredrich, City of Milwaukee Building Services Manager, followed by a tour of City Hall recent renovations. For the presentation they focused on what the City is doing with the foundation of the City Hall, renovation and history of the facade, and how the City managed the project through design-build.

December 18, 2014 CMAA Wisconsin Holiday Social Event

To show our appreciation for all that members and friends of CMAA Wisconsin have contributed in making us successfully over the past year, we hosted a catered cocktail reception at Red Rock Saloon. This was a great opportunity to meet the official board members and socialize and network with other construction professionals.

November 20, 2014 City of Milwaukee Update

Presented By: Rocky Marcoux, City of Milwaukee

For our November meeting CMAA welcomed Rocky Marcoux, Milwaukee’s Commissioner for the Department of City Development to provide an overview on the City of Milwaukee Development Updates. Mayor Tom Barrett appointed Marcoux Commissioner in 2004, and in that position he oversees the city’s economic development, real estate, neighborhood improvement, and planning efforts.

October 30, 2014 WisDOT Lake Freeway & Hoan Bridge Project

Presented By: Carolynn Gellings, WisDOT

The Lake Freeway & Hoan Bridge project includes complete reconstruction of I-794 in downtown Milwaukee, concrete overlays through the Lake Interchange and redecking, steel repairs and repainting the 2 mile long Hoan Bridge. This event will provided an overview of the project and a presentation of unique design and construction features, including shiplap joint replacement, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) block fill, movable barrier, Safespan debris containment and stay-in-place deck forms. Carolynn Gellings, WisDOT Project Manager, gave the presentation and led a brief project tour with a networking event following at The Wicked Hop.

September 30, 2014 General Mitchell International Airport Baggage Claim Building Tour

Presented By: Scott Hardy, Cotter Consulting

The CMAA Wisconsin September meeting consisted of a presentation about and tour of the General Mitchell International Airport Baggage Claim building. The General Mitchell International Airport Baggage Claim Building is undergoing substantial structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades, as well as a new automatic sprinkler system to serve the altered areas, a two-story switchgear room addition, second floor office addition, and new mechanical penthouse. The entire lower level is also being renovated; the five inbound baggage conveyors in the basement and five associated carousels on the first floor will be replaced. Architectural renovations include the replacement of the majority of the exterior skin and the interior renovations will include new finishes. Other exterior improvements include a new glass canopy at the lane deplaning roadway and traffic island. The presentation and tour were given by Scott Hardy, Construction Manager from Cotter Consulting, with a networking event that followed at El Fuego.
