Adopted Chinchillas

These chinchillas have already been adopted out to loving homes!

Allie

Black Velvet Female

Allie is a very sweet girl who came to us after her previous owner was unable to spend time with her. She is very sociable and does not mind being handled. Allie is a pretty girl and would love to find her forever home where she can be loved and spoiled.

**We have found a great home for Allie with a fellow member of Chins 'n Friends chinchilla forum! **

Squeaky and Linus

Standard Gray Males

Squeaky and Linus LOVE their out-of-cage playtimes and are always begging at the door to be let out. These boys have been together since birth and are a bonded pair. Squeaky is a very vocal boy, kacking at any little thing that alarms him (he must think he is a watchdog). Linus is a bit more outgoing and doesn't mind being picked up.

Nelson

Standard Gray Male

Nelson is a super-sweet little boy who loves attention and scritches under his chin. He is very friendly and is always ready to greet me when I come into the room. Nelson would love to find that forever home that will love him and spoil him (he loves to sleep in fleece hammocks and hidey-houses!)

**Nelson has found a great home with a loving family!**

Chester

Violet Male

Chester is a beautiful calm violet boy who enjoys spending time out of the cage and does not mind being held. His previous owner said he did not get along well with his former cagemates and does best when housed alone. He is a passive boy and would likely be bullied by an overly-dominant cagemate.

**Chester has found a great home with a fellow member of Chins-n-Hedgies forum!**

Lilo

Beige Female

Lilo is a very social beige girl who enjoys human interaction and begging for treats and sticks. She also has little freckles on her ears and nose! Lilo has always lived by herself and prefers to keep it that way - she is not tolerant of other chinchillas. Lilo prefers attention from her human friends instead.

**Lilo has found herself a home with a colleague of mine down in Southern California!**

Sande

Standard Gray Female

Sande is a spunky girl with quite the outgoing personality. She is very sweet and is always at the front of the cage when I enter the room. And once I open the cage door, she is always ready to hop on my hands or come out to play. Sande has a lot of energy and would love to entertain her new owners!

Sande was surrendered to us by her previous owner who didn't want her because she was too noisy at night. With chinchillas, nighttime is when they wake up to play and are most active! Sande is hoping to find someone who understands the chinchilla's sleeping/activity habits and won't be upset at her for being a chinchilla!

UPDATE 8/16/10 - Sande was adopted with one of Chinchilla Chateau's female kits to a great home where they are spoiled and now living life in a two story decked-out Critter Nation!

Angel

Pink White Female

I received an e-mail from a woman who worked at the Oakland Animal Shelter and in this e-mail, I was told that a chinchilla was left in the shelter's night drop box! She told me that she took the chinchilla home but was looking for a rescue who could take her in as she could not keep her permanently as she is heavily involved with parrot rescue. I met her in Dublin on 12/5/09 to pick up Angel and our rescue was also given a bale of shavings and a few bags of timothy hay which we are very grateful for! Angel came in underweight and her spine was quite visible. She eats well and is very active. She does not like to be picked up or handled much, but I'm sure she will come out of her shell with a little time and patience. Angel will take a rosehip from my hand so I think we are making good progress! She is a pretty little girl and we are lucky to spend time with this angel.**VET UPDATE **

Angel has chronic eye watering which clears up and returns periodically. I suspected the worst, thinking it may be teeth problems but upon her vet exam and X-rays, she has no teeth issues, there was no indication of an eye infection, and the vet believes she has some type of allergy or irritation to her dust, hay, or bedding. Other than the occasional eye wetness, she is a happy, healthy girl, and quite frisky!

Angel's eye watering seems to occur after diving into a pile of hay and it seems to decrease when we only offer cubed hay. Chins need hay for their digestive health and to wear down the tooth surfaces so we have been giving her loose hay every other day along with hay cubes which are always available. The eye still waters every once in a while after eating hay but it goes away. Any prospective new owners will need to understand that this is a chronic eye-watering issue and the vet has cleared her health.

Angel found a forever home with a chin owner and now has a chinnie friend named Papaya.

Stratus and Aurum

Standard Gray and Beige Males

On June 10, 2009, I drove out to the Bay Area to rescue 11 unwanted chinchillas ranging from 1 - 9 years of age. They were extremely thin, malnourished, and had matted fur and urine on their bodies. I took pictures and weights of all of them and posted them on the chinchilla forums (thread can be read here: http://chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5808) for those who may be interested in adopting them after they are in good health. All ranged between 300 - 500 grams and most were the size of my 3-4 month old babies! Nine of the chins went to Chins to Go in Rio Linda, CA and two of the males, BAY 1 and BAY 5 remained here. I named them Stratus (BAY 5) and Aurum (BAY 1). On day 1, Stratus weighed 303 g and Aurum weighed 341 g.

Here are Stratus and Aurum's day 1 pictures, taken on 6/10/09:

Left: Aurum, beige male

Right: Stratus, standard male

***Pictures from 6/24/09***

Stratus and Aurum are eating well and gaining. Stratus now weighs 329 g and Aurum weights 359 g.

**Pictures from 8/29/09**

Aurum now weighs 447 g and Stratus is 427 g! They are both doing extremely well and are getting much stronger.

**Pictures taken 11/23/09**

Stratus and Aurum weighed in at 430 and 475 g, respectively. They are now looking great and are ready to find their perfect home. They cannot be housed together as Aurum does not get along with other chinchillas. Here they are:

Aurum - beige male - now healthy and happy!

Stratus - standard male - fluffy like a chinchilla should be!

These boys found a special place in my heart as they made their recovery. They really deserve to find that perfect loving forever home, after all they've already gone through. They are sweeties, and it is a shame that their lives started out on such a poor note, but they are healthy now and are happy to now be in homes where they will be loved and cared for!

Bewford

Sex: Male

Age: Est. 3 years

Color: Standard Gray

Bewford came from a former member of a chinchilla forum I belong to and due to unforseen circumstances, she was unable to keep them. Personality-wise, Bewford is a little timid and during playtime is very quick!

Bewford has found an understanding owner who will love him just the way he is!

Hannibal

Hannibal (Standard Gray Male)

Top Left: Han's first week here in July 2008. Top Right: Taken on April 10, 2009 after I groomed all his loose fur and piled it on his head like an afro. He's such a good sport!

I know very little about this boy as he was dropped off at a Petsmart by his previous owners and an employee contacted me to take him in on 7/11/08. The story I was told is that he would not get along with any other chinchilla which is why they were getting rid of him. After examining him, I noticed he had a horrific hair ring (a matted ring of fur constricting the penis) which I removed - perhaps that contributed to his previous cranky moods.

Han may not get along with other chinchillas but he is very affectionate with humans. He absolutely loves scritches under his chin and getting rubbed behind the ear and he is very tolerant of handling. Hannibal is healthy and has a great personality - any chin lover would fall in love with him at first scratch. Since he's been here, he's gained a healthy amount of weight and is no longer a scrawny boy - he has an excellent appetite!

Hannibal's waiting has paid off - after waiting over a year, he went to his new home on 9/5/09. He hit the jackpot and now has a great home where he will be loved and spoiled!

Wednesday and Celeste

Wednesday (standard female) and Celeste (black velvet female) - $100 for the pair + cage and accessories

Wednesday and Celeste came in to Chinchilla Chateau for "chin-sitting" as their previous owner had to relocate down to Southern California. However, she was unable to take them back and they had to be rehomed. These girls found a great home in March '09 where they could remain together and now have a new chinnie girl pal as well!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lu

Lu (pink white male)

Lu is also from the same owner of Wednesday and Celeste. He has found an excellent home with an extremely experienced chinchilla owner where he will be spoiled and get the best care possible.

His new owner sent a few pictures of Lu on his first day home. Here he is exploring his new cage:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Chin

Sex: Male

DOB: Unknown, est. 1 yr.

Color: Standard Gray

Mr. Chin arrived on January 18th, 2009 and is a very friendly chin who craves attention. Mr. Chin loves out-of-cage time and runs right to the cage door when I enter the room. He is extremely loving and loves his treats and chew sticks!

The above pictures of Mr. Chin were taken when he first arrived here in January 2009.

Mr. Chin was adopted out and his new owners also got him a buddy who born here at Chinchilla Chateau. Mr. Chin's buddy is named Mr. Wu!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Zoe

Zoe (Standard Gray Female)

Zoe is a sweet girl with a very outgoing personality. She lives for attention and will jump right into your arms if you let her! This friendly girl will make a great addition to any chin-loving family as she does not mind being held and loves people!

Zoe was surrendered by her previous owners and arrived here on April 30, 2008. She was previously being fed treat-filled Kaytee Fiesta and wasn't too keen on being fed a healthy food. However, she is now on a good diet of Oxbow Chinchilla Deluxe and timothy hay and eats it very well. She gets her "treat fix" with her apple stick chews and rolled oats.

Zoe went to her new loving home - 9/4/08

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Cupcake

Cupcake (Standard Gray Female)

Cupcake is as sweet as her name implies! She's warming up very quickly and seems to enjoy getting chinnie scritches most of the time; sometimes, she protests and pushes away my hand. Silly girl! But when she's in the mood for them, she closes her eyes, tilts her head back, and lifts up her arm so I can get that itchy spot! Ahhh...

Cupcake also loves to chew! What chin doesn't? She has a great appetite for her loose hay (well, she does play with it a bit too) and begs at the front of her cage for apple sticks anytime I enter the room.

Cupcake was an owner surrender and arrived at Chinchilla Chateau on February 16, 2008. Her previous owner estimated her age at about 2-3 years. She has been transitioned onto a healthy diet of Oxbow Chinchilla pellets from her prior treat-filled food. Cupcake is now waiting to find her perfect loving forever home. Do you have room in your heart for this sweetie?

Cupcake went to her new loving home - 5/7/08

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Spice

Spice (Standard Gray Female)

Spice is a cutie-pie with a spicy personality. She isn't too keen on being handled but isn't shy in the least about taking treats!

Spice would do best in a home with experienced chinchilla owners as she does have some trust issues and would need some time to gain trust in her owners and bond. Her ideal home would be familiar with chinchilla vocalizations and behavior so her actions are not misunderstood - I believe this will be important in establishing a bond with her.

Spice went to her new loving home - 9/07
