Activities

Over the course of my internship, I took on a variety of projects. Read about them below and click to learn more.

The most time-intensive project was the transformation of an unused space into a research library and education center. I was particularly passionate about this undertaking because I had the vision for it and I’m very glad I got to bring it to life.

During my time at the museum I also created and expanded a number of exhibits. This was very exciting for me since I have grown up seeing displays at museums across the country but never created one myself. It was a huge step of independence and trial and error but it was fantastic to have the opportunity.

Since museums are there for people to enjoy and learn from them, I was anxious to interact with visitors and learn about that side of museums. I started off observing tours and by the end I was leading them by myself. I also created an interactive children’s activity because I want people of all ages to be able to enjoy the museum at their level.

One surprising place I got to leave my mark on the museum was with the collection of meteorological records they had sitting around. The century’s worth of surface weather observations greatly intrigued me and it was amazing to be able to see and touch them. However, I knew that the aviation and transportation museum could not serve them best, so I set out to find the best home and care for them.

As a small museum, I knew the MAMAT was always trying to get more visitors so I was happy to help with marketing materials. I worked on written publications, radio ads, and social media to get the word out in the community about the importance of our institution.
