Mid America Museum of Aviation & Transportation

What did my supervisor have to say about my internship?

Lyndi has exhibited a sincere interest in learning the operation of a small non-profit museum. Lyndi performed the physical work to update five signature displays plus initiate a new reading-research library and work our social media needs. Additionally, she has helped edit three museum letters and documents for fundraising, membership, and tourism. Lyndi has maturity, ambition, and a natural desire to learn and accomplish each assignment.

I completed my first internship at the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation (MAMAT) in Sioux City, Iowa. This hangar-like space features large aircrafts, aviation artifacts, military memorabilia, ground transportation vehicles, and an exhibit about a plane crash that happened on the runway right outside near the parking lot. The space is organized chronologically, showing how aviation and transportation have progressed throughout the years and highlighting the importance of many advancements debuted by the military.

I visited this museum a few times as a kid so it was fun to be back in a different capacity. For my first internship, I wanted something that would simply allow me to get a taste of the museum industry. I’m currently majoring in chemistry with a museum studies certificate to pursue a career in conservation--protecting documents, artifacts, and anything else you might find in a museum. I am so excited about my career path because it perfectly combines my interests in science, art, history, and travel. I am passionate about learning in unconventional ways and I want to make sure those piece of history are around for generations to come.
