Year Long Subjects Year 7 MIPS is about setting you up for high school life. This subject will help you stay organised throughout the year. You will also create an annotated learning journal that you must show your parents in a student led conference at the end of every term. Along the way we will also set learning goals and work towards meeting them. Year 7 MIPS will focus on how behaviour and attitude can affect your personal performance. We will look at how to get along with a range of other people. From time to time there will be information sessions provide about growing up and remaining a positive happy individual.English
English in year 7 2014 will focus on 3 main areas: writing, reading and speaking and listening. Each term students will extend what they already know about different text types (or the way different forms of writing are set out e.g. narrative, letter etc). They will then get the opportunity to put that learning into practise by writing a narrative, information report, persuasive essay and even a text response (something that may be new to many students but don’t panic you will learn all about it). Students will be given time to enjoy and share the vast amount of interesting books the school library has. They will even get to write blurbs about their favourite books so that others can enjoy them also. The other area that English focuses on is speaking and listening. This will happen nearly every day in the classroom without you knowing and will also be in the form of debating and learning to have confidence speaking in front of the class. Year 7 English in 2014 at Chaffey Secondary College is going to involve many different things so get ready and let’s learn together. Mathematics
Students are encouraged to explore the world of mathematics through activities based around number, algebra, geometry, data, and statistics. Year 7 students are given the opportunity to learn maths in different ways and are also offered assistance through special numeracy support classes. Mathematics is more then just giving an answer to a question with numbers in it. Real Mathematician's need to be able to understand how and why the mathematics works. In year 7 there will be a particular focus on problem solving skills and being able to explain mathematical concepts. It wont be uncommon to spend multiplle lessons on a single idea to make sure you really understand what is going on. When you understand you can answer those maths questions with ease. Students will also learn to write a report like a mathematician.
