Chaffey Secondary College is pleased to continue the William Birks Hawson Scholarship Awards which commenced in 1994. These scholarships are merit based and awarded to students enrolling in Year 7 for each Academic Year, and according to criteria detailed in the application.

The Awards are named after William Birks Hawson who bequeathed to our College Council a legacy “to be used for or towards the purpose of funding a scholarship in such amount and on such terms and conditions as the said Council shall in its absolute discretion determine”. This legacy has been used by Chaffey College Council as the basis for funding the scholarships.

Applications are invited for the General Excellence Scholarships - William Birks Hawson Awards to be awarded for the 2013 Academic Year. The scholarships will be awarded only to those students enrolled at Chaffey Secondary College in Year 7 for 2014, or those committed to enrolling at Chaffey in Year 7 prior to the closing date for applications.

1 The closing date for applications is Monday 11th November 2013 at 4.00pm.
2 Late applications will not be accepted.
3 The completed application should be posted or handed in directly

4. There is no application fee.
5 No correspondence will be entered into concerning the award or non-award of scholarships.

General Guidelines and Conditions

1 The Scholarship is merit based and available for the 2014 Academic Year for students who have met the criteria (i.e. who have demonstrated ability to attain excellence in their academic, sporting and cultural progress), and conditional upon the students maintaining a high standard of attitude, behaviour, academic progress and contribution to the college.
2 Students applying must be enrolled, or be committed to enrolling at Chaffey Secondary College for the 2014 year by the closing date for applications (Monday 11th November 2013).
3 Each Scholarship will provide a generous remission of school levies and book list expenses, to the value of $200, for Year 7 only.
4 The Scholarships will be awarded by refereed application and /or interview.
5 Chaffey College reserves the right not to award scholarships if the standard of the applications do not demonstrate the high standards expected.
6 Students may only apply on the appropriate form supplied by the college.
7 If needed, interviews will be scheduled for November.
8 All candidates will be advised of their result by mail.
9 Awards will be presented on December 10th at the Day 1 Orientation assembly. Approx 9.30am.
10 Results are confidential and no precise information about any individual’s application or performance will be divulged.
11 A scholarship may be reduced in value or terminated if the Principal is not satisfied with a recipient’s progress or conduct.
